Interesting. But what good does a baseball cap do when worn backwards???

It keeps the back of your neck from getting sunburnt or wet.

Is that the way to wear it to keep people from calling you a redneck?

He's a good writer...love his books, but he looks like a total space-cadet....lol

And can give you a real funny looking sunburn spot on your forehead. And nose. And cheeks...

So you basically have two options, either you grow a mullet and wear the baseball cap the right side or you wear a fully brimmed hat. And there's always the shemagh solution for extreme conditions.

Wearing a shmagh nowadays in gen pub could get you shot!

Its probably better to risk being shot wearing a shemagh than growing a mullet

British Army Current Issue Desert Hat

The French Foreign Legion hat looks like this:



The white cotton cover is detachable for easy cleaning... They also say it's "hand-blocked, wool felt". I'm not sure to know what hand-blocked means, it's a term commonly used in hat industry apparently.

That would be the kepi blanc, aka the white hat. But not the only cover they wear...

I believe that simply means that the wool felt upper was shaped by hand.

If you ever get a chance to watch someone hand block a hat, maybe the custom cowboy hat you are having created, be sure to do it, it is pretty interesting...
