You would have to be a dumb person to TEACH people NOT to carry water on any outdoor activity. You would be even dumber to practice this yourself.

Criminal is right. The guides should be charged with the local version of criminally negligent homicide. Why were they there and called "guides" if not to, at least in part, keep the students from dying?

I wonder if the local authorities are considering filing charges, and if not, why not? The settlement of the civil suit doesn't stop them.
