Beer is the world's oldest[1] and most popular[2][3] alcoholic beverage. It is produced by the fermentation of sugars derived from starch-based material — the most common being malted barley; however, wheat, corn, and rice are also widely used, usually in conjunction with the barley. Less widely used starch sources include millet, sorghum and cassava root in Africa, potato in Brazil, and agave in Mexico, among others.

"Beer is proof that God loves us" Benjamin Franklin smile

Actually the definition of beer is a fermented beverage made from grain. Yes one can also ferment starchy liquids but you will need to supply amylase enzymes (present in malted barley and wheat) that is why the ladies must chew the corn (amylase is also in saliva) to start the process of making Chicha. But if it is made of potato etc. with out grain it is not truly beer. Although there have been commercial potato beers on the market but the potato was an adjunct to the base recipe of malted barley.
I used to teach beer education at a beer company as well as a beer judging course. Yes I got PAID to drink beer at one time. Norm eat your heart out. smile

PS. Sierra Nevada Celebration is out again! This one is my very favorite!

Beer is the way to go for me. There was a fun website about reviews of beer called www.mylifeisbeer.com but it seems to be down now. Too bad.

Now I know you've already seen this, but I reiterate,

Our lager,
Which art in barrels,
Hallowed be thy drink.
Thy will be drunk, (I will be drunk),
At home as it is in the pub.
Give us this day our foamy head,
And forgive us our spillage's,
As we forgive those who spill against us.
And lead us not to incarceration,
But deliver us from hangovers.
For thine is the beer, The bitter, The lager.

BARMEN.

Beer is OK, if you have run out of rum or vodka...

as a matter of fact, I like beer"

On a hot day after a couple of hours of sweaty yard work, quaffing a cool pilsner in a tall glass while sitting in the shade watching the world get on without me for a while...that's one of life's great moments.
