I noticed that shortly after I got my mini RSK (yellow), that it would make a rattle-y, clicky sound when closed. When the blade is open, the sound stops.

I just started EDCing my full size RSK M2, and today I noticed it is doing the same thing.

I EDCed my mini M2 for a long time, and never any clicking sounds.

Do my locks have problems? confused

I noticed the same thing from my sequel, but only when I open or close it slowly. I think it is the lock.

There needs to be a little play in the lock for it to work properly, but it's only a slight back-and-forth play when you move it with your finger(s), all my benchmades have this when closed.

If it clicks and rattles on it's own, I would send it back and have Benchmade look at it. It shouldn't make any kind of noise when you hold it by the handle scales and shake it.

Edit: If you're talking about the click when you open it slightly, that's normal. The design has a natural detent that helps stop the blade from opening in your pocket, so when you open the blade slowly you'll hear two clicks. The first is overcoming the detent, the second is the lock engaging.

I don't think its the lock. I think its probably the stop pin (the pin that the back of the blade makes contact with when the blade is open). That pin spins. Put your finger on the stop pin with the knife closed and shake it. Does the rattling stop? This is normal, and beneficial. The pin spins to reduce wear. This way, the blade does not contact the stop pin in the same place every time.

On some Benchmades, the stop pin is fixed in place, and makes no noise. On some others, it spins. Again, normal.

Or, I could be wrong.

Hey. First post!

Mine has rattled when closed ever since I dropped it. By tightening the torx screws on the handle I was able to get the rattle to stop, but then the knife wouldn't open smoothly. So I put it back the way it was. It doesn't really bother me anymore.

My mini RSK rattles from time to time. It has to do with the tension in the pivot screw. There is a sweet spot where the blade opens freely (does not bind) and the blade does not rattle. Mine likes to loosen up over time so I am constantly re-tightening it. One of these days I will take it out and put a drop of loctite on it.

Occasionally the stop pin rattles a tiny bit when you get a tolerance build up. Max hole size combined with min.pin end diameter. This has no adverse effect on the function of the knife. The stop pin is designed to rotate to avoid wear over time.

If it really bothers you, a small drop of blue Loctite will stop your rattling stop pin. Put a drop on a toothpick and then onto the stop pin allowing it to migrate into the hole. It will set up in the hole in the liner and will stop the rattle.

This was discussed in some length on another forum specific to knives, and most everyone who fixed it on their own did what Doug suggested. If I can find the thread, I may post a link to it.
