I'm unlocking this one long enough to reply with a a bit of an admonishment to the gang.
Here was a guy who was clearly trying to tell us all something - that the
Walter Mitty fantasies about living off the land are well-tempered by his experience in reality.
I've got to say, for all of you who simply dismissed his post as a "ramble" that was pointless, perhaps you might want to read it again.
I see a guy who's been there, done what we plan for and think about for when the SHTF, and appreciates the civilzation we have, and also (like me), sees that there is great hardship, more than most anyone can stand, in "living off the land" and what we have at home is good and worth defending and preserving.
I'd also like to point out that I know a few old soldiers and they all tend to sound like him. So before you are dismissive, listen. Don't judge. Listen.
