I read the book. I saw inside magazine write ups from the camera crew (my girl is a camera operator)... Don't have much time working mad OT to see it. Did anyone see it? What you guys think?

I just watched it yesterday evening. I thought it was shot well, and the landscapes are fantastic. The acting was good (you even get to see Hal Holbrook!). It's not over-the-top by trying to make him out to be some saint. Good acting and directing. It does condense some things, but that's standard for movies. The character also says some lines that actually were from letters he wrote to friends. All in all, a decent film. I was surprised at how harsh a view was expressed by the lead character regarding his parents, given that they cooperated in making this film possible. I would say that it's a credit to them and the film. The film does catch the spirit of the book well, so I would recommend the movie to anyone who enjoyed the book.

I saw it. So far most folks in "our circle" are very critical of Chris McCandless and think he was a fool.
I am not of this line of thinking.
The movie was incredibly filmed. The panoramas are awesome. Sean Penn deserves a lot of credit.
I enjoyed it as much as the book.

I liked the movie and to some extent I can relate to McCandless as we all can, with our wanderlust within ourselves. Emile Hirsch was good but he reminds me too much of Leonardo DiCaprio in Total Eclipse or The Beach. The soundtrack by Eddie Vedder (Pearl Jam) with ballad like acoustic songs and banjo is worth the movie alone.

I agree Eddie did a great job. I especially liked to duet scene and the choice of song; Angel from Montgomery. smile
