Major also imports the Mercedes and Volvo Unimogs. My yuppie city is congested with Beemers ( all black), over restored classic cars ( grind that unsyncronized first gear) and SUVs that are the envy of Panzer Grenadier veterans. All with a Starbucks coffee in one hand and a cell phone in the other( no wonder the Klingons hated Kirk! Allways talking on the cell in his big, white suv) as they negotiate the 1.2 miles to the riding academy. I want a Volvo unimog ;O)

I stand corrected.Tthe Volvo unit is not dissimilar. Big, ugly, slow and utterly reliable with the same engine as my 240. Since I shall probably never afford the Bentley: this is my next toy. If I cannot keep up with the Jones's, I shall drag them down to my own level LOl.

I wonder what the Toyota Mega Cruiser would be like? would it hold its own with the Hummer H1? Maybe I should just look at the Volvo C303?

For $83K USD I would expect the steering wheel to be on the proper (left) side...

I'm not even gonna ask where you have to go to buy one of those. Probably wouldn't pass smog in CA anyway...

Outdoordad, you must've been pretty bored looking back five years to reply to all these posts.

Sometimes looking to the past is the best way to see the future as not all things old are obsolete. Why is it even if the H2H comes to showrooms people still hate them?

When I see one, there's just one word: ostentatious.

Mercedes makes the unimog, and I want one too. I just don't have the disposable income for one. Maybe after Ed McMahan shows up with my PCH check.

Ed was American Family Publishers - can't remember the name of the guy who dropps of the check from PCH, but he is an actual employee of the company, and usually has some regular rank and file folks with him - Disclaimer - my wife worked for PCH for over 10 years, but no longer does

I just picked up a Toyota FJ Cruiser. http://www.toyota.com/fjcruiser/index.htmlMore power than a Hummer H3, it will go anywhere the Hummer will and some places they won't. Also, better gas mileage (about 20mpg, ok not great) and about $28K well optioned. I love my FJ. I would highly recommend it. Nothing against the Hummers though, they're good for going to the mall.

I looked at one but hate 1/2 doors. I wish they had full-size doors for the rear seats.
The 2008 H3 Alpha has a 5.3L V8 engine: 295 horsepower and 317 ft.-lbs of torque.
The 2008 FJ Cruiser has a 4.0L I6 engine: 239 horsepower and 278 ft.-lbs of torque.
Both will out do the majority of the other suv's.
I am leaning towards the new 2008 Liberty - if for nothing else the room in the second row seats.

Negatory good buddy. Read the material in the link. "Built by Mercedes, imported by Freightliner." Mercedes plant in Gaggenau, Germany. I should know ;-) unimogbert

Hi Outdoor Dad,
While I agree that the H3 Alpha in a nice vehicle (finally a V8), the base price is around $39K bare bones. Still kinda slow though with 0-60 at 9 seconds compared to the Toyota at about 7.5 seconds.
The standard H3 has an inline 5 engine rated at 220 HP, 225 LB (07). FT of torque. There is also the reliability factor, but I won't go there right now.
The new Jeep Liberty seems pretty cool, have done to much research on that yet, but I do like the new styling.
Good luck with your search and keep us posted on how you make out.

I wonder what the Toyota Mega Cruiser would be like? would it hold its own with the Hummer H1? ....... I'm not so sure about that site. Is that a hoax? 18' turning radius for a vehicle that's 17' long? 150 horsepower in-line 4-cylinder? It sure looks fishy.
