Just to clarify, the loud guy wasn't acting out Gollum purposely, but the glowing eyes in the darkness and seeming to talk to himself certainly reminded me of him. Actually, Gollum's voice would have been soothing compared to this guy.

Re: campfires, the exact wording was "no on the ground fires, but charcoal & stoves are permitted" which I took to mean that the substantial steel fire ring was out. However, I saw several people using patio-style fireplaces that were no more safe than the provided fire ring. The ranger only drove past once and I missed him, so I didn't get to ask for clarification.
