I just finished reading the final Harry Potter book, Harry Potter and Deathly Hallows.
One of the main characters carried a BOB! Of course, they didn't call it that...
"...I've had the essentials packed for days, you know, in case we needed to make a quick getaway."
Hermione's BOB was a small beaded bag that she kept on her person all the time, sometimes tucked in the top of her sock. I knew you all would be panting to know what was in it, so I made a list:
The two boys' rucksacks An invisibility cloak Books, stacked by subject Money 3 sleeping bags 3 toothbrushes A large framed talking painting A flask of Polyjuice potion A bottle of Essence of Dittany (for injuries) A Sneakoscope (it tells if anyone bad is lurking around) A small radio A canvas tent with a bathroom and small kitchen, 3 armchairs and a set of bunkbeds
I wish I had a BOB that would carry that much stuff and still fit in the top of my sock.

"...An invisibility cloak..."
Now THAT is something I would love to have. With one of those suckers, you wouldn't need anything else, you could just walk in and "borrow" from others...

Survivorman brought this kit with him in one episode, except he added a harmonica.

In Dungeons and Dragons, we called this a bag of holding. Had something to do with dimensional warping.
I recall a discussion about a suitcase built such that you could access the 4th dimension within it. A guy would put various items into the suitcase, then remove them, one at a time, before placing the next item in the suitcase, circulating about 10 times the volume of items than it would hold fully loaded. Later, he would open the suitcase and remove whatever item he needed as it appeared.
Kinda along the same principle as the clown car in the Circus I suppose. How else they gonna get all them clowns in that little itty bitty car except via another dimension? Or is it that clowns are compressible?

I had a couple great characters (10th level monk and a 9th level cleric) that I raised from 1st level, then lost the folder somewhere. Devastating.
