Just saw this. Apparently it’s not ready for prime time yet. This concept has been previously discussed here, just not recently. Pictures were in 9.10.2007 Newsweek “Tip Sheet” section.

There's certainly not much info about it. For instance, how much does it hold?

IIRC, the SODIS people say it isn't useful for people more than 30 or 35 degrees north or south of the equator, which lets out everyone in the U.S. north of a line formed from Fresno, CA to Virginia Beach, VA.

Maybe for the rest of us, glass containers in a solar oven would do as well?

One advantage to the traditional SODIS method is the source of the water bottles is generally free. I have used and taught the use of SODIS in Ecuador, where empty water bottles are often strewn along roadways. The new SODIS bottle while likely more efficient, has a price tag and as soon as it costs some money, many of those who would benefit from the product are quickly priced out of ownership. Even if the price were fairly low, distribution will often make a useful product unobtainable in many remote areas.
