I went to bed last night expecting Tropical Storm Humberto to bring me 10"-15" inches of rain today and maybe a little wind. Woke up this morning to discover it had grown to a Class 1 hurricane and was tearing everything up to the east of me. Instead of a foot of rain the weatherman is now saying it'll be a nice day here. Meanwhile 50 miles east they are being pummeled and flooded and the power is out. They didn't get any warning. If they didn't have supplies last night they are going to be hurting.

Congrats on being prepared for it and not drowned out today. It might be pretty bad today for the guys who went to bed last night with no worries.

Good to hear you missed the brunt of it. Watching the storm track last night, I wouldn't have been surprised if I were east of you. ETS includes being well informed, which sometimes means not relying on others to tell you when trouble's coming.

It's good to hear that you and your family are ok. I only saw word on Humberto yesterday afternoon and it appeared to be a weak tropical storm. When I watched the weather radar this morning it appeared very organized for just a weak tropical storm - it gained strength quickly during the night if it became a Cat 1 Hurricane.

After I heard that it would steer far east of Dallas, I didn't give it a second thought. Guess we should all be more careful of these storms. It could have easily changed course as well as strengthen.

Good thoughts also sent to Wildman, wherever he happens to be in the Gulf.

Glad to hear you didn't have to use your canoe to get from the living room to the kitchen. Although from your blog page it sounds like you have some experience navigating "shallow" water.

When I left work yesterday the sky overhead looked exactly like it did six years ago when Allison dropped 39" of rain on Houston in a 24-hour period. I kept on eye on the tv all night until I went to bed at 10:30pm and even then they were saying it'd move over Houston as just a tropical storm with heavy rain and winds about 45 mph. Sometime late at night it swerved east, keeping over the water and blew up to a class 1 in a very short amount of time.

Most hurricanes are at sea for for a week or more before they hit. Three days ago this was just a blob of low pressure and wasn't considered a threat. It just goes to show how quickly these things can pop up! You need to stock up before hurricane season starts (which I did).

On the downside, I was hoping for heavy rains to make it easier to pull out a bunch of shrubs. Oh well.

I am just glad that you have missed out on the brunt of Humberto!! My boat was in CC for this one & I am dealing with family problems in Ark. My wife had a lot of rain to deal with but wasn't worried because of the preparedness level that we have achieved.
