Maybe the statistics have to do with the fact that so many people don't care anymore. I work with kids a lot and it seems the narcissism runs deep these days. Maybe it's due to the fact that some people find it more interesting to watch another living being die rather than try to intervene...or maybe they're just lazy. Rather grim view of things I know, but it seems in some ways that's how society in this country is.
