Wow, two weeks without gear in the bush. Makes me want to take a primitive skills course. That is truly incredible. I think Les Stroud (aka Survivorman) should have an episode where he interviews survivors of events like this! Sheer will to survive! :^)

Fair to say, she owes her life to two off-duty LEOs.
CBS News: Circling ravens and two men who decided not to rest on their day off have led to the discovery of a 76-year-old woman who had been missing for almost two weeks...Baker County sheriff's Deputy Travis Ash told The Oregonian newspaper that he and Oregon State Police Trooper Chris Hawkins went looking for Doris Anderson on their day off. They left a Forest Service road and went down a steep, brushy canyon because Ash felt it had not been searched well enough before.

"What alerted us was birds; we heard ravens," Ash told the newspaper. Ash said they also heard Anderson talking to herself.

Anyone know why the ravens were circling around her? Were they looking for scraps, or, heaven forbid, her own flesh?

Anyone know why the ravens were circling around her? Ravens will prey on injured and sick animals (apparently, including humans).

I really hope Doris grants an interview once she's feeling better. Totally amazing she was able to live two weeks in that country, with that weather. I would love to hear her story!
I am pretty curious how she ended up where she did and I would like to see the area on a map. If they hiked from their vehicle to a main road I would assume they walked along the road they took to get stuck. I would also assume should would take the same route back to the truck once they seperated. Maybe they cut cross country from the truck to the main road and she just got disoriented trying to find her way alone??

I can't help but think of James Kim. Eesh.

Very glad to hear they found her in good shape!!

I like this quote: http://blog.oregonlive.com/breakingnews/2007/09/memory_fuzzy_for_sandy_woman_f.htmlSchott said he has had brief conversations with Anderson, but she draws a blank when he asked how she survived. "She said she didn't know why she was in the hospital and then she commented, 'Maybe I shouldn't have drank that dirty water.'"Sounds like she did right by that dirty water... |
