What my kit doesn't do -- A disclaimer

When I make a survival kit/ Bob/ First aid kit, I've started including, along with the instructions, inventory and "when to replace" lists, a note to what the sort comings of the kit are.
This is to tell the user what isn't included and what to watch out for -- for instance, : this kit includes no food sources, add some granola bars.

Good idea. Maybe on the exterior as a sort of "informational luggage tag"?

I'm a bit confused. Are these kits for your own use? If so the inventory( along with your own memory) tells you what the kit contains. If the kit is for others to use, again, the inventory. If the note is for info during a crisis, well then ya got whats in the kit to operate with and thats all. If the note is for when you give the kit to someone as a gift, it makes all the sense in the world. " Here, this is for you because I care. Check it out carefully."

Its great your making the kits as gifts, I just made one for an employee and like you I made a list of what is not included so they could add it later.

PS I'm using more and more lists in my planning -- lots to remember.

I'm a bit confused. Are these kits for your own use? If so the inventory( along with your own memory) tells you what the kit contains. I also have gotten in the habit of placing an inventory list with most of my kits with a brief description of its contents. I keep these kits for my personal use, but I tend to forget what I put in them after a while. As well I can easily imagine a situation where I'm the one carrying the kit, but am not the one using it. For example maybe I somehow become immobilized: "hey, go grab item X out of my Jeep!" "Where is it?" "In one of my emergency kits, there is an inventory list on the outside..." Yeah, kind of a lame scenario, but I'm sure there are other situations where someone not familiar with my kits will have to use them. Rio

...Also, something to read in a kit can be calming, instructions, contents, etc.

While out on a trail ride with some younger kids I noticed a lot of small baggies laying around on the trail. After spotting a couple I put gloves on to see what they were. Each one had some kind of pill in there, and a small colored circle. The same kind of pills had the same color sticker and a date in the near future written on it. I dropped away from the group and soon realized some had dumped their emergency kit. The objects soon got larger and on each one had a packaged date, and an experation date. By the end of the day I had everything but a pair of gloves, and a cold pack from the guys kit according to the packing list. I left a note that said who to call if he wanted it back, and right then started doing the same thing to my kits. I think it's an awsome idea.
