Several months ago I created a set of reference cards to carry on an every day basis. The contents include:<br><br>Volume Equivalents such as gallons, liters, quarts, pints.<br>Metric/US Equivalents. such as meters, feet, yards.<br>Decimal Equivalents such as 1/16" = .0625<br>Metric/US Conversions such as miles,meters, kilometers.<br>Map Scales<br>Temp Conversions F to C<br>Kitchen measures such as Quarts, tablespoons, etc.<br>Water Purification Formula, such as bleach, iodine, etc.<br>Some Geometric Formula such as area of triangle, etc.<br>A pocket size UTM grid reader.<br>A pocket size Circular protractor 0 to 360 degree.<br>Some common knots for rope and fishing.<br><br>what I found was almost a deck of cards to carry.<br><br>Hope this helps<br><br>Ted Fisher<br>Vermilion County (Special Tactics Search and Rescue)

Subject: Re: New Wallet Emergency Card <br>My wife and I are working on the "Expectations Decision Tree" which at this point is simply a list of what each of would do under various emergencies.<br><br>We started by evaluating what we thought each of us would do in and after an earthquake depending on the amount of damage to our worksite or home.<br><br>Background: <br>I work about 5 miles away from my wife, across a lake that splits Seattle. It is possible that an earthquake could severely damage the roads and bridges that I would use to get to her work site then home. We usually carpool to her worksite then I drive on to mine.<br><br>So our decision tree tries to outline what each of us would do under certain sets of conditions.<br><br>For example (from my wife’s point of view, at work): <br><br>We have a major disaster that prevents me from communicating with her, phones are out or she has had to evacuate her worksite (since she still does not have her HAM license I cannot call her directly, our other radios are too limited in range, we are also not cell phone equipped).<br><br>Her responsibility is to evacuate to a safe place with her kit, make herself safe then attempt to determine what her course of action should be and try and then try and evaluate what my condition may be. She has a radio/TV that she hopefully could use to determine the state of bridges, roads and structures. She has estimates of the amount of time it may take to arrive at her worksite based on my 4 available options, drive, public transport, coworker, and walk.<br><br>She has 2 choices to make. Either stay where she is and wait for me to arrive or attempt to get home. Once she has gathered as much info as possible she chooses one option and leaves me a message either at an out-of-state contact and/or a written note in a selected spot. She has public transport options if available, rides with coworkers, or walk as options. Her choices are made after evaluating both her skill, equipment and educated guessing on what I am going to do.<br><br>I am of course trying to evaluate my actions and anticipate her likely steps based on info I am gathering.<br><br>On and on etc.<br><br>So what we are trying to develop is a key that presents 2 choices to make at each evaluation step...<br><br>Given these defined circumstances, here are the choices. Eventually all plans lead to home, or near home depending on circumstances there. We are working towards a quick pocket guide that will present these options. We are still quite a ways from having this done.<br><br>
