OBG, I've been interested in survival and preparedness for something like 40 years. I read a lot, and sometimes it sticks.

Unfortunately, sometimes the stuff that sticks is totally useless. Were you aware that rats and horses can't vomit? And if you ever need the lyrics to the theme songs from Gilligan's Island or the Beverly Hillbillies, just let me know.

Unfortunately I think I still remember those myself. Don't have a clue what I had for breakfast tho...

A little tidy-up certainly does wonders for your morale and sense of well-being. Also helps prevent or soothe rashes and prickly heat due to irritation from your sweat.

I've never used a no-rinse body cleanser. Thanks for the report.

Rather, I've always done a "cup wash" -- put a few drops of shampoo in a big steel mug full of water, poured a little at a time on my head and downward, with a little rinse water handy for afterward. It has roughly the same pH as skin, so you only need to rinse your head and face (and possibly nether regions); otherwise no problem.

Or, I would put a squirt of shampoo in a dish soap container, fill with water, and wash everthing with it (dishes, hands, etc.). Seems that if you pre-mix it, it rinses off with a tiny bit of water. Doesn't leave a detectable residue on dishes either. Sometimes I put a dish soap squirt-top on a two-litre pop bottle; either for soap mix or rinsing; the threads are compatible.

Susan, I like the idea of the baking soda wash. Perfect in bear country -- there's no lingering scent that mimics food. You could do it right in camp. Or even rub yourself down with the powder and rinse with river water; no soap to contaminate a glacier-fed stream. Gotta try that.

Hey, I wonder if a person could use that alcohol-based hand sanitizer on a sponge? You can buy the stuff cheap and in bulk if you have the right connections. Perhaps a little harsh on the skin though.
