I believe I have some experience with the firestarters Lee mentioned.

I placed a small, thin, plastic wrapped firestarter in each of the youth kits our group assembled recently. The packet looks like a slightly oversized wet-nap (a little bigger and a little thicker). The plastic packaging is lit with a flame and burns for about 12 minutes total (8 minutes of strong flame). It may be possible to open the packet and crush the solid fuel inside then light the packet with a spark; I have not tested this method yet.

The small red and yellow bag that the packets come in are just labelled "Firestarters" (product #0601542-000) and are distrubuted by Litestyles of Chambly, Quebec, Canada. I purchased them at a Dollar Store for the inexpensive price of $1.00 for each bag of 8 packets. I saw the same packets for sale at Canadian Tire but in bags of 24 for about $7.00.

The nice thing about these firestarter packets is that they thin (easy to fit in a small PSK) and clean, very easy for kids to handle and use.
