My son and I attended a lecture/presentation done by Les Stroud in our home town about 2 years ago.

He showed some of his films, explained how they were produced, played some new music and spoke passionately about his craft, country, family and the enviroment.

At the end of the show he took the time to meet us and have his picture taken with my young son, it was an excellent night.

In listening and briefly speaking with Mr. Stroud, I found him to be very genuine, as his website says "the real deal". I have enjoyed and learned from his Survivorman series and look forward to the second season.

No, I find that crap incredibly annoying. Supposedly educational programing that feeds on fear. Millions of sharks are killed each year by people for sport or for food. The yearly average number of human fatalities from sharks can be counted on one hand. They're fascinating, phenomenal creatures but unlike lemurs they aren't cute and furry so they get villianized.

I have eaten far more shark than have eaten me. I intend to keep it that way by not venturing out into the ocean unless the beach I am standing on is on fire and I have no way around it.

Captain Quint showed me all I needed to know about the threat of sharks.
