If you decide on the Classic, consider upgrading to the Signature - same exact size and features except for the addition of a very usable retractable ballpoint pen in place of the toothpick.

http://www.victorinox.com/newsite/en/produkte/index.htm

I'd suggest seriously considering the new Leatherman Squirt S4
What is the difference between the squirt and the micra? I've never seen the squirt other than on thier website, but it looks to me that they have the same tools. Also, would you recomend I replace my current micra with a squirt?

Thanks,

Chris

thanks
I asked on bladeforums.com and lots of people recomended the classic, and also the ladybug, and the micra. I think i'll go for the micra, and maybe when I get more cash, the ladybug

1. The Squirt is actually shorter than the Micra by about a quarter inch.
2. The Squirt comes in colors: blue, gray, red.
3. The Squirt comes with either scissors or pliers. I've always thought the scissors were redundant, a nice convenience, but the knife can generally do both jobs. Now I have the option of pliers.
4. The Squirt blades and other instruments, except for the scissors or pliers, can be deployed WITHOUT opening the tool, just like the Wave. I've always hated having to open the Micra, then open the blade in a second motion, then close the Micra in a third motion for a better grip on the tool. Usually I just grab another knife to avoid the hassle of deploying the Micra blade. With the Squirt you open the blade - that's it!

All those features, in theory, would make it a better tool than the Micra, but we'll see. The only question is durability: if durability is equal to the Micra, the Micra is obsolete. If the Squirt is fragile, then the Micra should be redesigned to allow tool deployment without opening. I have two blue Squirts on order.

I agree with Rodmeister. I have had a Squirt for only a little over a week now, but I have been very pleased with it, and think it is a vast improvement over the Micra. It is smaller, has better tool options (on the plier version) and seems to be put together better (better finish, ergonomics). So far I would highly recommend it.

Greg

I've carried the Micra for years but rarely used the blade because of the hassle of deploying it. Instead of a-day-to day knife, it became my emergency tool, and I carry my Chris Reeve Umfaan as my EDC knife because I can flick it open with one motion. With the Squirt I should be able to leave my Umfaan at home or in my briefcase.

My info on the Squirt came from researching the Net and studying photos. I've never handled one, and my blue Squirts have been on backorder since July.

Please tell us more, especially comparisons between the Squirt and Micra.

I have both the squirt S4 and the micra.
After I got the squirt ( for my wife actually), I was so envious of the better tool deployment (especially the knife) that I wanted to switch the micra with her !

Basically like what you already mentioned
1. Tools deploy from the outside like the wave
2. The knife in the S4 is single ground like the micra. Knife on my micra seems sharper though, but nothing a diamond hone can't fix. Access to the blade on the outside is reason enough to get this..
3. It is smaller, lighter and cooler looking.....
4. the cap lifter is sturdier than the micra (more victorinox like actually)
5. The rest of the screwdrivers are well,...screwdrivers.....but slightly more sturdy than the XS one on the micra.
6. The tweezers are much better, since they are free like the one on the SAK
7. I have not got the Squirt P4 yet, but i'll be going to next week!! There is a small victorinox leather belt sheath ( for the minichamp i believe) that takes the squirt in very nicely too......

I may very well leave the wave at home if I do get the P4.......
