Have found "Write-int-the-rain" and "Harvey Wetnotes" as water/weatherproof notebooks and even printer-papers.

Does anyone know of someone who sells these items at an affordable price?

Also, diving arceologists and divers in general often carry a small writing board for notetaking and calculations underwater. Does anyone know where to get hold of this in the US or europe? Preferably about 4x6 in. (or 10x15cm).

Im going to use it in woods/winter and need something that works with a "russian space-pen" (an ordinary pencil).

Best Regards!

/Stefan, Sweden [Europe]

The "Rite In the Rain" waterproof paper products are expensive regardless of where you buy them.

The maker of the product is: http://www.riteintherain.com/

In Sweden, you can get the products from:
Sweden

Phone: 08 501 514 21

The other device is called an "Underwater Writing Slate" - like this http://www.joediveramerica.com/page/JDA/PROD/aegcs/WR1

I've found it for sale in the UK:

I recall getting a pretty good sized sampling of Rite in the Rain for $10.00 three years or so ago and have never needed to buy any since, but I don't know if they'll ship the sample pack overseas.

About a year or so ago there was a link for a introductory kit that included two notebooks, one space pen, and a sample of printer paper for around $12 or so. I looked on their web site, but could not find the kit. Maybe the promotion is discontinuted, or maybe the link is "hidden" and you have to find the magic URL. Anyways, I don't have time to look right now, but it is a good deal IF you can find it.

I dunked the sample printer sheet in water for 1/2 hour. The very edges were slightly soggy, but the paper was still strong, and you could easily write on it with the space pen. It also dried to almost-new condition. Very impressive stuff. I also really like using a pen, as you never have to sharpen it.

I also love my Inka pen, as I have it everywhere with me on my keychain. Get one...

Rite In The Rain is great stuff. I have used a bunch of different sizes of their spiral notebooks for hiking, camping, boating. I actually found that I seem to get better prices when I buy them on sale from a place that has branded them with their company logo. You have to wait for a sale, but I have bought them from Eastern Mountain Sports on sale for less than I've seen even online. I think REI may also brand them. On the back, it says they are made by Rite In The Rain, they just have a different logo on the front.

I dove for years and always needed to save money...if you want really cheap and good 'slates' for 'underwater' use.....take a piece of plexiglass and rough it up with sandpaper so that you can no longer see through it. It is now usuable as a slate. Pencil erases off it with no problem by either eraser or by rubbing with sand (field expediant-works well while underwater). Another nice thing is that you can custom make your slate. And if you know of someone who has 'scraps' you can get it for free. I use to give these away to students as I had a free supply of scrap plexiglass.

Hope this helps someone.

take any paper (including a map you print from your computer at home) and brush on some deck water sealer (like Thompsons Water Seal), let it dry over night. you will be able to throw it in a sink full of water and it won't run. you can still write on it with a pencil. at home waterproofing for a fraction of the cost of commercial products. I bought a jug of generic deck sealer years ago and I've not even made a dent in it waterproofing hundreds of sheets.

Speaking of waterproofing, I've never understood why so many of you say (and Doug too) to keep some paper in a BOB or with your survival supplies. What am I missing? Seems if I'm in that situation, I'd be worried more about living than writing a best-seller, y'know?
