"300,000 without clean water as flood threat moves to Thames Valley"

"One third of a million people in the west of England will remain without clean running water for at least a week as a result of the worst floods to have struck the UK in the last 60 years.

Severn Trent Water said this morning that 350,000 customers would remain dependent on 3 million litres of bottled water delivered by the Army each day, and on a fleet of 900 mini-tankers parked in flood-stricken locations to dispense drinking water. "

350,000 people dependent on approx. 750,000 gallons of water. That means IF they can reach each person every day, they will get about a half-gallon of drinkable water.

A half-gallon.

The only upside is that the temps are running about 68F, and they aren't getting that horrible heat that eastern Europe is getting. If they did....

I hope some of them have the sense to catch some rain in clean tarps and containers.

It makes you wish you could do something, doesn't it?

A liter I can figure (altho I hate doing it, I am not metric), but how big is a mini-tanker? Is that a water buffalo (do the Brits have those?), or something else? Bummer for them either way tho...

It costs nothing to fill your empty soft drink bottles with tap water. Even if the wife does think I'm bonkers for doing so. A lot of people in the west of england are now finding out that a few hours without fluid is too much.
You see the doc in New Orleans just got let off for adminstering lethal amounts of painkillers to old people cos they were in such agony after a few days without fluid?

Do you have a link for this?

Edit: never mind. The story is here. It sounds to me like she never should have been charged in the first place.

You're darn right they should never have been charged.

Hospitals simply aren't equipped for disaster. They just aren't. If they have enough fuel to run their generators for three days, they think they're covered.

If you're in a hospital when a disaster hits or threatens, beg your family and friends to get you out ASAP.

I live in the area. It's a pity that the reporters who are presuming to police people don't have something more useful to do. Like drowning. Sooner or later the bottled is going to run out. The people who are trying to obtain some extra are the ones who have worked that out. Or need it for babies etc. Not that the reporters would mention that little detail.

I'm waiting to see if the storm surge compromises the water treatment works near my place of abode. And yes, I've filled water bottles. Puritabs, milbank bag etc are to hand and ready.

Keep y'all posted.
