It was pointed out on the 'Evacuation' thread that if you forget to take your BOB, or simply are unable to take it for some reason, you're dependent on what you're carrying on your person.
This was brought home to me last night.
Women especially, are used to carrying all their important 'stuff' in their purse. No purse, no stuff.
Yesterday morning, in broad daylight, a woman down the street disappeared. Her car was parked in the front yard (not in the driveway), the driver's door was wide open, her purse, keys, cellphone, dog and coffee were in the car.
She didn't have a thing to work with, no weapon, no tool, nothing useful.
Sue, hoping for the best, but expecting the worst

Not to play Sherlock Holmes via internet, but: the door was open and the dog stayed in the car? Unless it was tied, doesn't that suggest the owner told it to stay or something to that effect?

Agree. While I agree with always having a few tools on my person, it may not have mattered in this situation.
Sue, Any more details available?

It's a lot easyer for males to carry stuff on our person than females. Unless they happen to be in a situation where they can dress in slacks.

Frank2135 My uncles dog loved to go places with him all he had to do was open the door of his truck and the dog would come running and jump in and wait there until it was time to go. My uncle could spend as much time as he needed loading things up and the dog would just sit there, some of them are like that.

I was just getting ready to ask where the "ex" was, but now we know. Sad story, often repeated...

As far as carrying your "stuff" goes, my co-"workers" call me Pockets (from Hatari) thanks to my fondness for pants with cargo pockets. You can put a lot of stuff in those things...

My dog loves to ride in the car and will wait for me with the doors open...as long as I'm in sight. When I walk around the corner, she jumps out and follows me. If I tell her to stay, she does (for a while).
What I was leading up to that the dog staying suggested to me that whatever happened and whoever was involved, it was someone with a degree of control over the dog.

Many people assume that humankind is triple-dipped in civilization. Actually, the veneer is so thin that there really isn't much difference between us now and ancient Rome. If any.
Her hubby has pleaded guilty to murder. I'd like to be a fly on the wall when he explains to his 15-yr-old daughter how he just HAD to kill her mother. A#$H@&$!!!

At least, he didn't kill the kid !! In France, we recently had two guys who killed their kids : - in one case, he did this after killing s.o. else - in another case, he just killed them, for no apparent reason except he was about to divorce or had just divorced ...
