I'm home fighting a bug today. Went to wash my coffee cup and there's no water!

"Oh yeah, there was a note on the entry gate last night, water's off today from 9 to about noon." (Significant plumbing actions require shutting off water to the whole complex.)

I read it as I came in last night, noted that it would be while I was at work, and dismissed it because I didn't expect to be at home today.

Well, the water pitcher's full, there's at least 2 gallons in the various bottles in the 'fridge and freezer, and there's the 6 gallon jerry can in the closet if they go WAY over their estimate. Not a problem.

Then I had to use the restroom. "Hmmm...I should grab one of those bottles so I can wash my hands. Great. Wash my hands with ice water. Brrrr! . . . Oh, wait, there's hand sanitizer in my bag!"

(Note to self: get extra bottles of sanitizer for the pantry. Use large ones to refill small ones.)

Lessons learned:

Being prepared for big things means you're also prepared for not-so-big things.

NEVER dismiss a situation that could affect me, given a change in plans.
