I need to get a car code reader. I've chosen not to fix certain non-essential things in my aged, yet functional car. But that means the "service engine soon" light is almost always on. I want to be able to tell when I need to take a car to a mechanic (i.e., when I get a new problem that I need to fix). I've posted on the forum for my car's make and model, but I didn't get a reply. Since a similar topic came up about a month ago, I'm wondering whether anyone can make a recommendation for a reader.

I'll need a car code reader that can also clear codes. Naturally, since I'm being economical in not fixing an old car, I'd also need to be budget conscious about the reader.

Thanks!

I used one similar to this on an older Chevy we had. It works well enough...
