#42799 - 07/01/05 01:31 AM question on pack organizers

I'm looking to build a light weight kit that I can carry by itself, or tucked into most of my packs. I've narrowed it to the tri-fold organizer from Outdoor Research, and the PackRat from SpecOps Brand. I looked at the modular EOD pouch from HighSpeed Gear, but I'm not sure if it will work quite as well.

Has anyone worked with the PackRat and/or the Outdoor research unit? Does any one have hands on experince with HSGI products? They have great reviews, but too many of those are from paintballers and airsofters...

Also, if anyone has suggestions on alternative iteams, I'd love to hear them. Basic requirements is that it has to fit in a light duty back pack or be carried on it's own, while having plenty of internal organization. It will carry a greately expended PSK-type kit, first aid gear, and a few small tools. Oh, and under $50 by preference, under $70 as an absolute top end.

I had something similar to the Outdoor Research tri-fold organizer, except it was really a tri-fold camp toiletry organizer. It held one of my first attempts at a survival kit after finding this forum.

Personally, I didn't like the tri-fold idea because the way the gear was stored and the way the organizer opened up allowed the contents to fall out and/or move around.

I've gone to a small blue (clear vinyl front) AMK pouch that I separated from the medical kit and put the contents into a Ziploc bag instead. It's small and fits in a cargo pocket if you need too, but better in a backpack or travel bag.

I haven't used the Spec Ops "Pack Rat" organizer but I've thought about ordering one. It sure looks well thought out.

Of the ones you mentioned I only have experience with the Spec Ops and I found that it organaized the gear I was carrying at that time quite well. Ofcourse what will work for you will be very much determined by specifically what gear youre going to put in it.
