Contrary to popular belief, I do own a few "fashionable" purses. Exactly two and both were purchased for wedding parties I was in. I thought they would make excellent dress-up purses for my nieces. When I took them out of the closet and blew the dust off, both had little metal containers inside that I thought would make excellent containers for vaseline soaked cotton balls.

The pink one was a mint container and the the silver one held some extra lipstick from the hair and make-up lady. Both hold 5 or 6 cotton balls and seal up nicely with duct tape.

LOL!! Hey! I'm a Scouter. I can't just throw stuff out. Ya gotta put it to good use. And ya know.... that's not a bad idea for people with little girls who are into that!

Here's one for you Canoedogs. Staying with the girlie theme, it's got a small lighter, half a dozen strike anywhere matches, 2 tampons and a tube of lip balm in an old plastic Qtips travel pack with the cardboard tray that originally held the Qtips. There's still room for more tinder too.

EDIT: added a few birthday candles and some more matches! Giving it to 8yo DS on our hike tomorow so he can start a fire for lunch.

I try to get an hour or so daily bicycle ride, so have been somewhat changing priorities to my EDC... notably switching from a Vic Farmer to a multi tool...but in doing so lost some room in the generic belt pouch for the mini Bic.... so decided to down size from the Vic Swiss Tool (outstanding blades but heavy) to a Leatherman Juice I just got as a present...this gave me a good needle nose, blade, opener, and scissors and a little room for a flat TOPS (knife company) whistle with ferro rod taped to it , and a PJCB stuffed into a plastic straw for tinder... a hacksaw section and a couple of heavy duty safety pins and needles completes the pack...I don't spend time in the woods, but for the relatively small space it occupies, it's nice to have fire starting materials

That sounds like a great set-up, Les. (Is a PJCB a Petroleum Jelly Cotton Ball?)

Jackie... yes to the PJCB.. the large diameter plastic straw sections makes a compact and non messy carrying container, and worked well for use in the tool pouch...I'm trying to get things out of my pockets...the Leatherman Juice S2 just may be the answer to the right sized multi tool for me

Thanks Les. I never would have thought about putting them in a straw. Great thinking. Very inventive!

EDIT: The guy at equippedtoendure.com uses a straw to give CPR to his fires. I never quite understood that but a straw IS a great way to procure water!
