Hello everyone, I've been enjoying reading your posts on here for quite some time, and decided to post one of my own. Does anybody have experience with Masters of Defence knives? I've heard about the great quality, but I think the prices are a little high and I'm not too sure about their usefulness in a non-combat survival situation. I carry a Leatherman Wave, and would like to add a fixed blade or folder to my list. Any input would be appreciated! Keep up the great posts...

Why don't you look at the fixed blade knife that our host sells on this site?

hey lostfish do you mean the British (ministry of defence) knife..it's issued to British royal marines and is carried in many British military survival kits..it's a big heavy, husky knife with a thick steel blade and thick wood grips and has a somewhat cheap leather sheath...i bought my M.O.D knife at the P.X. about twenty years ago ,any ARMY P.X./clothing sales at the time used to carry alot of Brigade Quartermaster catalog items..i carried it all the time when i was in the field...if i remember right i paided about $50 to $6o dollars for it...i still have and use it to this day...vince g. 11b inf...

Master Of Defence knives are a well made MARTIAL product. One could get into some interesting debates where martial arts ends and real street combat begins. That said, you have many excellent choices for a basic knife for considerably less money. The MOD 4, first made by Wilkinson and now Adams is an entirely different creature, one I field tested sometime ago.

Ah, the good ole Mod 4, it just keeps on living, although I think that you and I are the only ones here who own one...

The MOD 4 was forged from the same material as J.R.R. Tolkien's One Ring and only dropping in the Crack of Doom will destroy one. My 'Test' was to first put an edge on mine. The old Wilkinson was rather decent with nice convex edging, inset lanyard hole and wooden handles. My Adams has the composite handle made from recycled road tar scraped from Landie chassis. The steel sharpened easily enough with a file and stone vs the 1/4" soft steel. I then entered an old abandoned trailer, or caravan in the UK. A few hours later I hacked my way through marine plywood, aluminium sheeting, various electrical conduit and fiberglass insulation. My Adams was now a spendid saw with all the chips and waves in the edge. To be fair, I proceeded to disarticulate the remains of a feral pig the ranch owner mistook for a coyote- who benefited that evening with a pork dinner among the avocados. My hands were a battered mess of blisters from that miserable handle and the thing called a sheath had mercifully got mislaid. When I reprofiled the edge it was considerably reduced. I imagine eventually I'll have a expedient Fairbarn- Sykes commando knife. Martindale makes a 'paratrooper' machete of similar pattern. Mercifully, the Bushcraft knife is giving Brits more options.
