Preparing for the yearly pilgrimage to the land of the Walleye and the Pike. Fly-in about 100 miles north of Red Lake, ON.
FAK kit check: Noticed SAM-splint (never used) was shot, dessicated and cracked. Probably due to age and repeated crushing in transit. Also noticed that the iodine and betadine did not have expiration dates on bottle. Any of our resident medical personnel have any info regarding the efficacy and aging of same?
I normally update the more common OTC's: Tylenol, Motrine, Benadry, Neosporin, and, of couse, Immodium.
Stopped at local REI, picked up new SAM-splint, heat sheet, and an excellent find, a pocket size medical reference from a Dr. Weiss. Have not had the chance to read the whole thing yet, but in glancing at it, it appears to go far beyond most of the wilderness first aid books I've seen in the past.
Came to the conclusion that for next years trip, the whole master FAK is going to need a rebuild.

KISS, REDUNDANCY, and THE 7 P'S would make great names for rock bands
