Hi , new to this great forum. Thanks to Doug Ritter for the time and effort spent to build such a wonderful site.
I read that Doug is starting another forum for long term survival. I think it is very good idea and even I suggest to break down the existing survival forum to several categories of survival, like : Survival Equipment, Case studies ( or what if scenarios ..etc), automotive, gardening, ..etc. Whatever is seen fit by the boss and the "elders" of this forum. In my very humble opinion, it will be better organized than one congested "survival forum".
Thank you.

I largely differ with your suggestion. (Though I Respect it, -and it's good that you made it.). With the exception of our new, upcoming one on longer term survival, -I'm in favor of *Keeping* our ":In One Place" format as we have. There is too much mutual overlap between many of our subfields, -for such Hard and Fast boundaries, to be drawn. I personally do not think it is unduly congested. There may be some appropriate subareas that can be so set apart and highlighted, -besides just Long Term, -if such should ever occur to any of us. But for the very most part, -No,-I really feel that we are doing just Fine!
And Welcome Aboard! [color:"black"] Chisel

Welcome Its good to get new people joining in. I would have to agree with Scot about dividing things up too much. It can also confuse people doing searches as well.

This is not to argue with eveyone opinion, but I just noticed that most all other forums ( even survival ones ) are divided, and it seems everyone spends more time in the areas they prefer. Some spend more times with gardening and lifestock, some spend more time with trucks and jeeps ( bug out vehicles) and some just cant have enough of kits and gadgets
Anywayz, if the elders like it as it is , why not
Thanks for the welcome.

I just noticed that most all other forums are divided, and it seems everyone spends more time in the areas they prefer One of the things I like about this one is that you have a lot of people from all over the world with vastly different backgrounds and experiences all thrown in together reading and discussing different threads. I beleive that if you divide it into too many areas you will loose some of the collective knowledge base that makes this forum great. As it is we get people adding to threads that they might not add to if its divided up.

OK, I am not insisting that my suggestion is a good idea, but it seem that it needs some clarification . I couldnt understand the connection between dividing the threads in categories or subjects and the issue of different backgrounds and experiences.
Here is what I mean. A nwebie like me comes in and looks for some discussion about trucks or jeeps. Before posting a question or a remark, I need to visit the "automotive" or "truck" forum, and see what has been discussed before and learn from there. If my point or question havent been discussed there earlier, i start a new thread . So, same thing for someone interested in "health" for instance, can go to the "health" forum. I dont see that dividing the subjects can in any way hinder anyone from discussing any subject they want, rather it would only organize the threads into categories or subjects instaed of all the subjects mixed up into one "survival forum".
Its the same logic by which Doug has decided to separate "long term survival" in a standing forum, and not throw it in the mix.
Anyways I would just spend a bit more timne reading and will get accustomed to the format of this forum. I am glad I found it.

I can see you point of view, and I wasnt having a shot at you or your suggestions or saying that it was a bad idea. I was expressing my personal veiw of what and why I liked it this way. One thing that might work with my views and yours is a separate catagories that you could select when posting a new thread to make searches easier, but not have more than 4 main forums that we post into. The current software doesnt support this so I'm not going to push it or start a thread which will get thousands of suggestions of what everyone would like
