Out of Blue beam, Green beam, and Red beam what would be the best color for a EDC carry flashlight. In particular I was looking into the Surefire A-2 Aviators. I was thinking red would be the best, but for the average user is there any real advantage to the blue/green? What is your guys opinions?

(by the way, I don't say white because white comes with all the A-2's)

We've had several lively threads on this in the past. I tried blue, which actually has the tactical advantage to defeat some night vision devises. I've observed it is virtually invisible under natural moonlight. Of course, the persons using the things were visible in the same moonlight to a carefull observer I personally now use red when preserving night vision is a consideration. Don't forget the trick of closing one eye if you absolutely must use white.

Here is my $.02:

If I am trying to preserve night vision and not walking in grass then I use green. If I am walking in grass then I use red. The reason being is that green makes it hard to discern surroundings if they are also green. I have never used blue but I did read a book written during the second world war that suggested its use so as not to alert the casual observer as Chris stated.

I have a poor color vision. For me maps a clearly readable with red light but a lot of the print melts away with green light. If you´re not sure, you should try if the color is fit for your tasks before you make your decision.

Do you talk of urban EDC of outdoor EDC?

I carry a white light all the time.

For colours, i'd go with red for outdoors (so i can save my night vision and batteries)

For urban, i'd go with blue. it is a lot brighter than the red, i generally won't need a reason to maintain my night vision, and i also just like the colour
