As I often work (or drive) throughout the night, I offer up my personal list of radio stations that keep me awake. I welcome any "favorite stations" or lists that anybody keeps, and that cares to offer it up to the board.

What's the difference? Radio stations are all so homogenized these days it hardly matters what station you're listening to.

93.7 Houston, Tx 103.7 Houston, Tx 106.9 Houston, Tx Add 97.5 to this list. They just switched to classic rock about a month ago. Warning, the morning DJs suck. Actually, all the morning rock station DJs suck here in Houston. -Blast

I'd like to know if anyone still keeps track of the all news stations. With the wild weather we've had in Texas in the last six months, the all-news/weather/traffic format is especially useful. Dallas, Texas best choice for news/weather/traffic is 1080 AM KRLD (some talk shows on weekends and weekday noontimes). They still have on-staff meteorologists and news reporters. Comic relief is provided by the Texas Rangers radio broadcasts (good heavens, they are terrible this year )

They do here, too. Must be hard to keep good people in radio these days.

Well, -I'd say that with my humble little Table Radio, -I, from here in Southwestern PA, (and down in a Valley at that), -can and do regularly (Sunset to Sunrise hours) get WSB Atlanta, WABC New York, WCCO Minneapolis, KMOX St Louis, WHO Des Moines, Rochester NY and Louisville KY, -whichever is WHAS, -but I still do get Both, WTAM(?) Cleveland, (or "Kleavland", as I personally like to say), 2 big Chicago stations, WRVA Richmond, WBT Charlotte, Nashville, Albany/Shenactady/Troy NY, at least 2 big Philly stations, Detroit, and several Canadian stations. There are perhaps 10 to even 20 others sprinkled therein. But none West of that Minneapolis to New Orleans line. I think I've also gotten that inodinately big one from Havana from time to time!
I'm some 300 to 400 miles from our American East Coast. Were there 1,000 miles of Land rather than Ocean beyond there, -I'd have similar Success Eastward! The same Northward into Canada! Except that beyond its relativly Narrow, Southern Population Strip, -its of course quite Wild, Sparse, and Empty! Heck even a large part of that is an extension of the Arctic Ocean! That being of course Hudson and James Bays! I'm actually not all that far, from such, -as well as the Wilds of Ungava, Labrador, and Quebec! Similarly, -(but also Not similarly, -as I shall soon relate)-were there Land where the Gulf of Mexico is, -one Close Enuff could also pick up Stations there. But I am Not close enuff so! That Hypotheticality equates to how the Great Plains are to me, -Radiowise!
Its not only a matter of such Geographical Confines, Better Reception at Night, etc.
Its also a matter of FCC Assigned Frequencies, -designed to provide minimal Signal Interference, -*within a Given, General Locality*. Beyond such a Local Scale, -especially such Interference from Overpowering Local Stations, -Long Distance Overriding Interference just often can't be helped! Thats why I as a Rule *Don't* get many Big Ones! From here within the U.S. Northeast, Eastern Midwest, and Southland. Like Boston, -Cannot get! Buffalo, Erie, Indianapolis, Duluth, Milwaukee, Montgomery, Charlestons SC and West VA, Washington and Baltimore, even Cincy and Montreal most of the time, -Same Story as Boston! also my humble little, Low Reception Radio, -is Doubtless a Factor!
And while on the Subject, -Isn't Nightime DXing so much Fun! Not only of what Stations you can get from where, -and How Well! But also of all those Atmospheric Pops, Crackles, Whines, and Whistles and all you hear!, as well! Often somewhat Decidedly Wierd! But still Great to Listen too! All the same!
Personally, -I'm First and Foremost a Conservative News Talk Radio, sort of guy! This of course is usually an AM Radio sort of Affair! Many such Shows that I can't regularly get in my own Pittsburgh Market, -I get from such more Distant Stations as I've mentioned. Though most of the Big Names do have a Prominent Place, -here in my Home Market. Rush, Hannity, Glenn Beck, Quinn and Rose, Michaels Savage, Medved, and Gallagher, Dr Laura, Laura Ingraham, Monica Crowley, Janet Parshall, Kim Komando, (Computers, Digital, and the Net), Drudge, Gordon Liddy, Hugh Hewitt, Neal Boortz, Dennis Praeger, Bill O'Reilly's Radio Show, -along with a few Others, -They are all here! Bout the only Big One I Don't get, -Locally or Long Distance, -is Bill Bennett. Mark Levin, -Affectionately and Respectfully Known by our Crowd as "the Great One!", -I don't get locally, -but I do Pull him in regularly out of WABC New York! Along with Jerry Agar and Others. Heck, -Thats where I get most of my Laura Ingraham from, -in that my Dinky little local Station carrying her Sucks! And interferes with Quinn and Rose on another area Station, -besides! These all are who I regularly Pull In! Locally and DXingly Long Distance. Here in my own Personal Preference and Genre. To those of you also into such Genre, -my Contribution here may Serve as somewhat of a Guide.
And finally, -Don't Forget to do some DXing, -both Long Distance and in your (Newly) Local Area, -and as you're Going to and Leaving such, -as you Travel!
I've Mixed Feelings about Art Bell's and George Norry's Flying Saucer and Ghost centered "Coast to Coast AM"! But do a DX Scanning of your AM and FM Radio Dials! Especially from Midnite on! And its only Wall to Wall!
(My Travel paragraph was Accidentally placed Before my Coast to Coast one. The Travel one is my *Actual* Last paragraph here!).
