Hi all,

I'm a newbie but have been looking and learning since last August and have learned a ton from ETS and you all. Thanks.

I just came up with a new 3-n-1 PJ tool for my edc. This is meant to ride solo in my left side cargo pocket. I would like to know if it is a good idea or a waste of time and space. This took about 30 minutes to do but I am sure that with practice and/or syringe it could be done much faster.

3-n-1 PJ:
Fire Starter/torch fuel
First Aid Ointment (cuts, burns, lips and hands)
10+ inches of Super 33 tape

Three easy steps
1. Wash out mini toothpaste tube. Sensodyne was chosen because it is one of two that I had available and as far as mini's go it is long and not so bulgy, so it should fit nice in a cargo pocket.
2. Fill with PJ. This was tedius but I think a syringe would work well, as would melting the PJ as I have read on other threads?
3. Clean and attach tape. This not only helps secure the weak spot on the tube but it also provides some useful quality tape.

Should come in handy in my situation:
Urban (Durham NC)
Father (1mo and 2year)
Husband
Cronic winter dry cracked hand stuff
This can free up the spot my chap stick resides in (top left shirt pocket) for something else (yippie!).

thoughts?

Welcome!

Interesting way to carry PJ. Do you carry cotton balls too, or do you have another plan for having PJ turn into flame?

And how in the world did you clean the toothpaste tube out? Since you mentioned a syringe, I assume that you did it thru the normal hole in the end. If you did that, and are wrapping tape around the other end anyway, I wonder if you could cut the end of the tube, empty and clean it from that larger opening, then pack it full of PJ, using a table knife or small spatula. You would then tape/glue/somehow seal the open end.

I'm not too sure about putting the PJ on a burn, usually stuff like that traps the heat in, causing more pain...

A suggestion and a question:

Label the tube properly. I know, you are thinking you won't forget, but especially if you carry the same size and brand of toothpaste in a larger kit, this would be a REALLY rude wake up call.

Where did you find that tube of toothpaste? I've never seen Sensodyne in that packaging.

My guess would be that he got it at the "sample" wall in some drug store or WallyWorld type store. You know, where they have the little containers of toothpaste, deoderant, shampoo, hair spray (don't use the stuff myself), etc. Not being a user of Sensodyne, I have never notice a little tube of that particular brand, but always have a little tube of Colgate or something in my shaving kit. My dentist usually gives me a new toothbrush, mini-floss, and a little tube of toothpaste when I have a checkup also. Getting all of the toothpaste out of the thing is what amazes me...

I'm not real sure why you would want to go to all the problems to switch tubes. If all you had was a large tub maybe. The wieght differance is negligible and you just short yourself a little PJ. You can just wrap the tape around the factory tube.

Use withchazel or rubbing alcohol in a spray bottle or modern burn treatments the first day. Evaporation of the witchhazel or alcohol will help cool the area. BTDT before I figured out that my sunscreen needs to be either shade or spf 30+. Don't forget about reflected sunlight either. Worst burn I ever got was at Panama City. Water, white sand, white concrete & not a cloud in the sky. Already knew I burned easily & went indoors when I had barely started turning pink. Second degree burns & sun poisoning from bottom of shorts down.

You could get the Vasoline lip protection tube (straight petroleum jelly) and bypass all the cleaning and transfer. Just try to get the non-SPF kind for all-around use. (A tiny dab of it at the outside ends of your eyelid crease will help prevent sweat from getting into your eyes and stinging, but don't use the SPF kind for this use, it STINGS!)

You need to completely cool down all burns before you apply anything. Apparently, keeping a burn moist promotes better healing than letting the surface dry out. And keep it clean.

I was in a store the other day that had PJ in small tubes a little bigger than the lip stuff size tube.

Unfortunately, I can't remember which store I was in when I saw it. But, it was in the travel section along with all the little shampoos, toothpastes, and travel cases.
