I am curious why people prefer the high visibility orange. Is there a specific benefit to the high visibility?

I prefer orange. I guess some camo-dude survivalists might not like it. High visibility cordage means it can be spotted easier, plain and simple. Have a knife lanyard made with it? Find your knife easier in hard-to-see conditions. Anything you use it for or on can be spotted easier. Anything lashed to a tree strung across your little campsite or whatever that you don't want to run into? Nice to hear from you Boacrow, any time-elapsed pics of a shelter you want to show us?

At the moment, Mine's black. Only reason for that is that I needed (ok, wanted ) some right this second, and the store only had black. I like orange though. Nothing screams "COME AND GET ME" quite like day-glo orange. Well, ok, maybe a PLB does a better job of screaming....

Yes, but what is an international "rescue-me" color? I don't suppose it is pink is it?

though you could.
just saying, other colors are more visible, especially at night.

OK, I am going to be the odd one here.
White
A. 'cause that's what I have
B. 'cause I think it is a little easier to see at night when you are triping over your shelter support.

I'm a follower of Cody Lundin. White during summer and black in the snow during winter which makes a lot of sense. My winter jacket is also black for similar reasons. I also got some blaze orange paracord from countycomm along with black, white and olive drab. I use the olive drab to practice and fool around making knots and bracelets, etc.

I bought some orange from CountyComm. After it gets a little dirty it looks brown. I think white is good, yellow would be even better.

Anyone tried than nice high-visibility yellow paracord with the 3M reflective threads in it? Seems like it would be choice for both daytime and nighttime use.

Tadgear makes a white cord that glows in the dark. It is not 550 strength but excellent for lanyards, etc. I had left some out in the house and found that it glows a long time after being exposed to sunlight coming through the windows and then to electric lights before retiring. http://www.tadgear.com/x-treme%20gear/accessories%20main/glow_in_the_dark_cord.htm JC: Do you have a link for the high-visibility yellow paracord with the 3M reflective threads?

I believe I saw it at One Stop Knife Shop. It's listed as 550 Industries Reflective Commercial 550 Parachute Cord toward the bottom. I haven't ordered it as of yet, so I'm not sure what the quality is.

I use OD only because it is what I can get locally. If I could get proper paracord in blaze, or better yet, nuclear/mountain dew/anti freeze green, without paying an arm and leg for it then waiting a week, I would use that across all my kits. All I can get around here that ISN'T green, black or tan is 450 line, and for the lack of difference in weight, bulk and price, I want the extra hundred pounds.
Now, IMHO perfect would be a 550 line with the shroud made from the same stuff as Triptease line.

Nifty! I want to use it for improvised antenna mast guy lines. Visibility there helps keep people from clotheslining themselves in the dark. If I could, I'd get it with both reflective and glow in the dark threads.

You could always tie small glow-in-the-dark flags every few feet. I'm imagining something like glow-in-the-dark flagging tape, or something similar.

for the lovers of high vis orange, neon yellow and neon pink are way more visible. Yeah, but neon yellow blends in too much with autumn leaves, and neon pink intitiates my gag reflex.

I like it! I'll have to keep my eyes open for some. I have some red flagging that has "reflective" patches on it, but it's not very bright red or reflective.

Ironraven, make a trip to VT Barre Army Navy Store , they have bright colors. I carry red because I like red, is visible enough and I was able to get a 300' spool for $50. I have a bunch of tan laying around for the same reason... I want some smaller paracord for dummy cords, just haven't gotten around to buying any yet.

Ironraven, if you are close enough I know that the Outdoor Gear Exhange www.gearx.com on Cherry St in Burlington carries the bright lime green and I have found the blaze orange at the Rutland Army Navy store on Route 7 north of the Route 4 and 7 intersection.
