Find an old Ford Festiva, modify the suspension for better ground clearance, throw on some off-road tires and you've got as much off-road mobility as a 4-wheel ATV AND some relative comfort AND you can drive it on the highway (probably cheaper too).
Heck, if you are going to do all that work just build one of these. Talk about ground clearance... <img src="/images/graemlins/grin.gif" alt="" />

Personally, I'm a fan of Bond's "Little Nellie" from "You Only Live Twice". There's just something about aerial torpedoes, mines and flamethrowers that just get the blood moving in the morning <img src="/images/graemlins/wink.gif" alt="" />

And that was built when the 70's? You can pretty much buy all the parts at the hardware store now, just need a lawn mower engine and some aluminum and you have one. Keep it light enough to qualify as an untralight and you don't need a license to operate it.
