I just purchased a set of long burning candles (12 hours) to stow in my car. The package states they are edible as well (vegetable searin).

1. Is there any true value to eating the candles? Just because something IS edible doesn't mean you should eat it.

2. Even if the candle is edible, would it be wiser to go ahead and soak the candles in salt water to increase their life? It would seem to me that heat would be more important than food, especially since I am not likely to be travelling places where I'll be "lost" for an extended period of time.

Thanks

Willie Vannerson
McHenry, IL

Bill,I've ingested vegetable based candles.Save them for their intended use! Get some long term food bars, trailmix, jerky etc. and stash with some water. Some foods are better nutritionally and store better, but if your stranded(especially with children),a favorite food is a comfort. Rotation is important.I use the expediant method of forgetting my money, or waiting out my G/F's shopping marathons!

Thanks, Chris, for the reply. I suspected as much so I'll go ahead and soak the candles in brine to lengthen their burn time.

Willie Vannerson
McHenry, IL
