In one of my set ups, I'm trying to pack the most useful item, and eliminate similar ones. At odds with each other are a Gerber multi-tool and a Swiss Army knife Fisherman model. The key items are that the multi-tool has a saw blade and the knife has scissors. My thinking is that I'd rather have a saw blade and not scissors, than have scissors and not a saw blade. I don't want to buy another piece of kit that has both. So, are there any instances where you'd absolutely need the scissors where a conventional blade wouldn't do the job?

Paper,Rock,Scissors? Inuit sew garments for possibly the most hostile climate on earth with an ulu, thread and needle. Leave the scissors at home to cut out articles on your survival ordeal and ultimate ordeal for the scrapbook.

If you had a LeatherMan Wave you wouldn't have to decide.

At this point, there is no decision needed. I see no reason to need the scissors, hence the question. Besides, I wouldn't buy a Leatherman, but that's another topic altogether.

Neatly cut moleskin to fit where it needs to go.

My tiny EDC SAK scissors are enough.
I'd make a hash out of the moleskin if I tried to use the knife blade. (yes, it's very, very sharp but it would stll be ugly)

EMT Scissors are important to safely cut clothing off an injured person without moving them excessively. A knife with a sharp tip would be very dangerous. You might justfy the scissors for first aid applications.
What are you planning to use the saw for? In many cases wood can be broken to shorthen the length. If it is for fire then don't cut it just burn it in half or burn one end and keep pushing it to the center of the fire as it burns down.
On the other hand both saws and scissors are specialty items when compared to a knife so maybe you don't need either.

It can trim stray moustache & beard hairs. [And nose hair, but let's not go there ]

You can't run with scissors. But you can apparently run with a knife.

I mean, according to my teachers when growing up...
