The course is six weeks, meeting one night per week for 2.5 hours. The first five weeks are classroom instruction covering Medical info, i.e. opening airways, stopping bleeding, triage; Team organization and management; basic disaster skills, types of fires and use of extinguishers, hazmat info; Light search and rescue, different types of construction and where to look for damage, classify damaged buildings, search patterns, lifting heavy objects, victim carries; and the last session is a practical exercise experiencing a disaster and having fifty classmates work together.
