My NEW (!) 1942 Chevy 1.5 ton BOV/ 4x4 truck. This is original condition, 11,000 original miles. It's been garaged for 60 years as a fire truck at a Michigan woods hunting camp; the water tank has been removed (it was a bit too much). No computer chips, simple to work on. Of course you may need access to a few spare parts, or possible a fleet of extra trucks with spare parts. Top speed 45mph....but with great determination to get you wherever you want it to take you.

That is nice! I can't believe the condition, that is quite a find.

I guess the passenger has to hang out the window every so often and squeegee the windshield? <img src="/images/graemlins/wink.gif" alt="" />

Youre one lucky guy. !!

Two quick things to consider. The bed is too shallow to carry much cargo. You need about a foot more of walls with hooks all around to make it into a useful BOV.

Also, It seems to have had dual wheels in the back. If I were you I would have left them on. Not only they will improve all-terrain capability, but in an emergency when you are running away from a tornado, you dont want to stop because of a flat tire. You are always driving with "spares" on.

Yes, once I get the truck home, I'll put the duals back on and build a taller stake and rail bed. I didn't really buy this vehicle as a BOV but it would work after an EMP; there are no computer parts. Back to the basics.
