Just a note about the Girl Scout encampment, whose theme was survival that I mentioned last week in last week’s post. We had over 150 girls ranging in age from 6 to 16 and about 50+ adults. The girls really seemed to enjoy and learn from the various stations; obstacle course, shelter building, survival/first aid kits, survival food, map course and rescue dog demo. Various stations appealed more or less to different age groups. During the evening campfire program, each troop sang a song or put on a skit associated with the survival theme. It was impressive to see how much information the girls pick up from the day’s activities. Each girl received a bright yellow bandana (we could only afford cotton) with the STOP motto imprinted on it, a whistle with the “sit and stay” theme, the first aid/survival kit had some basic 1st aid supplies, a orange garbage bag, a CD (signal mirror – I know this is not perfect, but they were free), candle and basic survival instructions on water proof paper. We also had a night hike for the older girls. It was a lot of work, but well worth it. Pete

>>>It was a lot of work, but well worth it. Pete

A reoccuring theme in Boy Scouts is a study/paper that lists "Out of 100 scouts, "X" will ..." May favorite two are "One will save someone's life using skill learned as a scout." & "One will save their own life using skill learned as a scout." (Paraphrased a bit).
With 150 girls participating, there are good odds that you may have helped save someones life somewhere in the future by imparting knowledge to those girls last weekend.
