I'm looking for a case for a laptop computer. I was thinking Maxpedition might have something like that, but I found nothing when I was just browsing. I don't want something to hold a lot of stuff. Actually I'm just looking for something to contain the computer when I put it into my EDC backpack. I'd like something durable along the lines of a Maxpedition or Spec Ops product. Any suggestions?

Maxpedition would have been my first choice, they have a couple of new items just out for the SHOT show. You could try CountyComm, www.countycomm.com they have a couple of their own bags. IIRC Blackhawk gear may make a laptop case.

My EDC bag is a Maxpedition Condor , mainly used to carry an IBM Thinkpad + some doc/papers in the main compartment.
The front pouches contain cables, tools, writing instruments, power supplies for Thinkpad and tel., various odds and bits...
And there enough place to stash one of Doug's PSK, two or three garbage bags, a few lights.
When planing for an overnight or two, I add an M4 pouch as a toilet bag (+ batteries and lights), the main compartment of the Condor receiving some extra clothes, underwear etc...
Add a (single) sheath for sun glasses and a CP-M for a pack of Kleenex (just the right size !) and I'm set for the day

No one seems to make what I want for this.

I don't want a soft sided case. I _have_ a soft sided case. What I want is a hard walled, padded interior sleeve to go around my laptop when it's in the soft sided case. Something that'll take the load of, say, other carry on bags being piled on top of my bag.

I've always wondered if something like kydex would be stiff enough if made into a holster big enough to fit a laptop. Anyone know if anything like this exists?

I you're looking for hard sided, check out a pistol case (Doskocil brand comes to mind). They have padding top and bottom inside. You would need one big enough for two pistols to fit the laptop. Many of them are airline quality. Cabelas is one place to start looking.

Axio has a hard-sided sleeve. It says it is designed for Apple Powerbook, not sure what your requirements are. They also have a more normal padded sleeve. I've not used these products, just saw them while browsing around.

Yeah, I'm looking for something to keep the rest of the stuff off of my laptop in my EDC bag. I have a North Face backpack with a slot for a laptop, but I've had it for four years, and although it's good, it's just not mil spec

I tried the carrier someone else suggested from Tactical Tailor, and it's just a little too small for what I need. That and the fact that when I got it out of the box, it just didn't live up to my expectations.

I've got an Eagle Creek laptop bag on order. Certainly not "tactical" but I've had good luck with their products over the years.

Groo, I make sheaths, holsters, and various stuff out of Kydex and I think this really won't do what you want safely. I've tried (for a removable HD). The expanse of the panels is too wide. Although there's good protection from penetration and scratching, there is almost none for crushing. The kydex is too flexable.
I have not tried multiple layers of Kydex. Now what I use to pad my laptop when I stick it in anoter case/pack is a piece of an old ensolite sleeping pad.
