I am thinking about a Garmin Geko 201. My older Garmin GPS III+ weighs 3 times as much. I need to check to see if the Geko 201 has recessed the power button though - I read earlier models had a problem with accidental power-on's.
Oh, and my letters to Santa have been asking him to help Doug get his fixed blades out for Christmas.

If She's gonna get you socks at least insist on Smartwool. You/'re feet need to be "equipped" as well.

Good God, That's genius, man!
I need to do something like that to divert the family from the procession of bad clothing I've recieved over the years.
Actually, this year I've dropped a few hints about camping and hiking equipment and as luck would have it, some of these items just happen to be things that can replace what's in my PSK or BOB currently as well.
Gerber XL Axe (will a prybar fit in the hollow handle for transport?) Suunto M-3 or MC-2 Magfire Pro or something similar Pelican M6 LED Acme T2000 whistle Cold weather clothing Ray Mears' World of Survival DVDs More Glow Sticks (I... Errr... Let my niece play with the last ones... Equipped to be a fun uncle I guess LOL) Etcetera and so on...
Actually I'm not worried so much about myself. I'd prefer it if my family made such lists so I had a clue what to get them that would actually be of some use. I'd like to get them PSKs but they already think I'm a complete loon. Luckily they have well stocked First Aid Kits... I guess... LOL
"Oh son... What a wonderful length of cord, safety pins, a whistle, a folding knife, some kind of make-up mirror with a hole in it and various tiny bits..." - My mother as she opens up her present Xmas morning and tries to maintain a smile.
HAHAHA

Here's mine. It is larger than this but I was getting tired the night I made it. Matt- Nicely done! Under the premise "Why reinvent the wheel?" I've considered sending my wife your link in an e-mail. Subject: Dan's Xmas List

Just a word of advise, do not by the Gerber axe, this are manufactured by Fishkars of Finland. Just go with the manufacturing product, generally available at Lowes and save around 20$. Regards

My Christmas wish is that I can visit Cold Steel when they come to town December 2nd. I’m going to buy an SRK, Trail Hawk, True Flight Thrower, and a shovel.
I’m also going to buy the “Metal Match” from County Comm for my sons for Christmas.

Craig,
Before you ask Santa for that Cold Steel line, you might want to take a look at Busse Knives or Swamp Rat Knive Works. They are top end and should outlast and outperform anything you can find at CS. I have two SRKs that I got while in Baghdad, but my primary carry is a Swamp Rat Battle Rat.

benjammin,
When Cold Steel comes to town they sell their seconds. You can get an SRK for about $35.00. Last year I got a Master Hunter for $20.00. You can make the Carbon-V steel very sharp. I'm going to be bad and put a Scandi (Mora) edge on the SRK.

I'm lucky in one sense that my elderly parents give all of the children money to buy our own Christmas presents because they can't get out to shop. I've already ordered some ColdGear (based on reviews here and other forums). I will have to wrap it myself though.

Wow, that's pretty much how I get my presents anymore. I take the money out of my pocket, give a small amount to my wife and kids for them to buy me worthless junk with, then go to the sporting goods store the day after and buy what I want.
Nothing wrong with a Cold Steel SRK. Like I said, I got two of them and they work just fine and are plenty sharp enough. I just wanted something more. Those two SRKs of mine put the hurt on a few insurgent palm trees back in the compound, and garnered some wry looks from some of the other residents when thrown with force into the nefarious tree trunks. Watch the tang to blade junction, though. There's a stresspoint at that spot due to the squared cut made to reduce the tang width. Not so much a weak spot to sideways prying, but vertical shear has caused that point to fail more than a few times. Check Bladeforums.com.
