Explanations:

I try to keep it simple, small, and light. My EDC gets me to my car kit or my house kit.

My wallet is currently a tri-fold. If I find a bi-fold I like I will down grade to the smaller format.

I carry one credit card, but should probably carry two, in case one becomes unusable. I have had credit card companies put a card on hold because of a change in buying patterns. On a vacation, I had a waitress lose my card after I gave it to her to pay for the meal (I had to pay cash D’oh!). On another vacation I was renting kayaks for an outing and the business accepted MasterCard, but not Visa. It is always possible to have the magnetic strip go bad on a card as well. I really need to add a second card.

Knife- Changes day to day depending on whim or what I am doing that day.

Keys- I carry the bare minimum. Car, mail, garage, house. The rest are at home where they belong.

Phone/e-mail list- I home-make business cards (printed on both sides and laminated with clear contact paper) with emergency numbers (Doctors, kids school numbers, etc), family and friends phone numbers, e-mail addresses, e-mail passwords to access my home e-mail remotely. This list is only the numbers I would use in an emergency. Try to stuff too much on the list and the small font really challenges your eyes.

Seriously, the actual minimum is my keychain, edc knife, wallet, watch, comb, lighter & cigs, pocket change and (about 75 percent of the time) cell phone.

The bag & a bottle of water go to work 5 days a week and on road trips, but the bag goesn't generally get carried on around-town jaunts.

But re the max ... the apt & truck are both mondo equipped!

How did you modify your ACR whistle?

This are the things I carry everywhere:

-Knife. It changes a lot according to my mood. Sometimes a tactical folder, other times a traditional lockback, lately small pocket fixed blades, too. If I'm outdoors I carry a fixed blade, sometimes I keep a medium fixed blade in my backpack when I'm in the city.

-SAK. I usually carry a 91mm cellidor model or an alox model (I use a Farmer outdoors) and a smaller 74mm (Executive) or 58mm (Midnite Manager) . I use 111mm and 120mm from time to time, but I usually preffer using one of the non-locking SAKs and a bigger folder or fixed blade. Lately I've been using a Safari Trooper a lot outdoors.

-Multitool. SwissTool, I tried out a Leatherman Wave for a month and it didn't seem to be as strong as the SwissTool. I'm considering getting a Spirit to sava some weight.

-Flashlight. A Petzl Tikka Plus and a Mini-Mag converted to LEDs.

-Medium personal survival kit. It's in a large fanny pack that also holds my first aid kit, flashlights and multitool. I never wear it as a fanny pack, I just drop it into the backpack I always carry. The contents are loosely based on Cody Lundin's book, modified for my needs and experience.

-First aid kit. I used to carry a small one, but I moved to a bigger one when I started working outdoors, and I don't regret it one bit. It has come in handy a lot of times.

-Cellphone. Hate the damned thing.

-Water and snacks.

Most of this stuff goes in my small backpack. I only carry the knives on my belt or pockets.

This is what I generally have on me most of the time. Clockwise from left.

Maxpedition Keyper Fantastic! Keeps keys (and assorted gadgets) from falling to the bottom of the pocket. I find that while wearing it over my left rear pocket, it works better if worn backwards i.e. with logo not showing. Makes it easier to remove keychain when you might need it in a hurry.

McLux III PD custom LED flashlight - Yes, I am a flashaholic. After months of research (and purchases) I found this to be the ideal EDC flashight for me. Here's a little info about the light.

-Uses 1x123 lithium cell (also rechargable but with reduced runtime)
-Has two regulated levels of light- Approx. 580mA on high for about 1 hour and 45 minutes of runtime and 30 mA on low for 42 Hours of runtime!!!! Your mileage may vary.
-HA-III inside and out
--Uses a (first of its kind) piston drive. All of the electronics are in the head of the unit (including the switch) for an optimized electrical path.
-Light is activated either by twisting the head (rather than the tail) -OR- pushing on the piston at the rear of the light (for momentary). In either case, first you get low, continue a little more for high.
-Has a saphire window with AR coating.
-Has a removable titanium clip. The best I've seen on any tool.
-Mine also has a tritium insert in the piston (optional extra)
- O-ring sealed throughout. Waterproof tested to 120 feet in a pressure tank.

Anyway, they are a bit expensive- $205 for base model. But VERY well worth it. I haven't bought another flashlight (except for a 2nd one for back-up). Many people here would spend this much on a knife, but in an urban environment a GREAT flashlight is at least as important (IMHO).

Anyway! Next is my Leatherman Charge xTi (ya'all know about that one) I keep a Peak AAA 3 LED snow in one of the pockets an extra lithium cell in the other. I'm also working on that sawzall mod I saw posted here a while back.

I'm egotistical enough to post what I carry.

Keep in mind that I'm probably as close to being a member of the unprepared masses as I can be and still enjoy this forum. In the event of a catastrophe, I fully expect to be rescued before I die. (Of course, I also expect that DH will be the one rescuing me.)

My EDC is my key ring and wallet. If I'm outside of the house, and usually when I'm inside I have them in my pockets. Usually when I'm not within walking distance of home I also have a mini-backpack or the diaper bag, depending on whether or not I have DD with me (not to mention the jump bag in the car).

Key ring:
- Keys for both cars (mine and DH's)
- House keys (house, garage, mailbox)
- whistle
- fingernail clippers
- photon flashlight (courtesy of DH, after he showed me how cool it was)
- Leatherman Micra (also from DH, at my request after seeing the scissors)

- Disney key fob (it's the easiest way to identify my keys to a stranger if I loose my keys)
- When I used to work far from home, I also carried the key to the home of a friend who lived close to work so I could spend the night at her home in case I couldn't make it home. I actually ended up using it once.

I don't carry water on a regular basis in the diaper bag because it is so heavy, but occassionally I clip a plastic bottle to the bag or throw one in the bag itself.

Once again I am going to crawl up on my stump and remind everyone that Bic lighters are not reliable after they get some age on them. I have always preferred Cricket lighters. I have a handful that are ten years old or more and they rarely fail to light. Never depend on a flint butane lighter. The flint degrades over time. And finally, remember, if you have a butane lighter, no matter what the brand, that is full but fails to light, don't toss it. Hold it open and light it with any fire source you have. Don't waste that butane. Crickets aren't as common as Bics. I have had the best luck finding them in tobacco stores.

Recon and anyone else interested. I noted your list included the Buck 110, a great knife. I was in WalMart yesterday and they have a glut of Buck 110's in a collector's commemorative tin and a gold colored deer head key chain with a bottle opener.
Surprisingly, the cellophane sealed package was only $23.44.
Knife made in USA and the rest made in China. It is a great looking package and very cheap. I never saw a 110 under thirty dollars. Make a great Xmas present or just put it up and let it appreciate in value. The tin is about 8" X 5 3/4" X 2" deep.

I EDC a Bic along with my Zippo, and both are checked and replaced or refilled respectively, consitently. With that being said, the "Big Gun" firestarters are in my PSK, which is always nearby. Granted, it should be noted that I work at home so my PSK is often no more than an arms length away unless I take it with me and leave it in the car. Heck, for that matter I am rarely without my BOB either though more often than my PSK. LOL

The Buck 110 is good. I gave my 14 year old son one about a year and a half ago. He is Mr. destructo. He takes it camping with the Boy Scouts. It has gotten ugly looking but it is still paper cutting sharp. The blade locks up tight and he has not bent or broken the tip or chipped the edge. A lesser knife would be broken by now.

I agree, my 110 has been a fanastic knife. I dont EDC it because I dont want to provoke anything with our laws here, but I have given mine a hard time, and it has stood up well.
It holds its edge very well.
Mine is the one with Titanium handles, but I dont think they make it with those handles anymore.

Here's what I have on me now, as I sit quietly at home. It's pretty typical:

The PryBaby normally lives in the coin section of the wallet but I got it out to show. I have been trying to mimimise the wallet size. I've now got it down to a fairly thin bi-fold, by removing store cards that I rarely use, and tools such as a fresnel lens which don't pay their way. I'm still looking for a perfect wallet.

The carabiner is the lightest full-strength one I could find. I'd rather a locking carabiner but I've not yet found one light enough. It's nice to have a solid bit of metal, though, and I like to think I could break glass with it if I had to. The parachord acts as a fob. The paper clips are fodder for the M4 microtool - it can cut and bend them. The M4 has locking blades and is a bit smaller than the Leatherman equivalents. In practice I use the Rambler much more often.

The Orb Raw has the two-stage switch. It puts out about 7 lumens on low and 70 lumens on high. It's not really a survival tool - not water proof - but it's currently the torch I use most. The Photon is a backup.

When I go out I usually add a mobile phone, and often a waist-pack with more gear. I don't always have the money-belt or the lighter. If I am wearing a jacket it will have a PSK in a packet.

Long time lurker and first time poster here.

My wallet, keys, phone, and Palm aside, I always have my Wenger SAK, an 8 LED flashlight, a Fox 40 Mini whistle, and a lighter. These are in typically in my pockets or in my almost-EDC pack which also contains a bunch of other items. These include meds, spare batteries, spare keys, a cash stash, duct tape, electric tape, and zip ties, among others.

Compared to many others here, I'm still pretty ill-equipped. Right now, I still don't have a first-aid kit I'm satisfied with. I'm slowly building up my kits though.

That's the best way to do it... Take it slow, see what you have, and don't go shopping for anything before carefully studying your travelling patterns, containers you might already have available, etc... For example, i've decided I had three patterns : daily commute (car), other car trips, and wilderness (hiking, snowshoeing, fishing).

I have a small camera-bag first-aid + PSK that travels in my messenger bag daily. I have something slightly bigger that travels in my car, and gets thrown in my backpack when I go in the wilderness... Works for me!

Hav fun doing it all! And don't be to hard on yourself, a cheap dollar-store mirror is still better than no mirror at all, etc...

Slowly building up your kits will allow you to learn about each item as its added so you can get the best item for your dollar to suit you and learn how to use it well before concentrating on the next item.

And about $40 in cash. Not carrying cash used to be a BIG thing for me, but now I try to keep close to $50 hard currency on hand at all times!

On my belt, my Leatherman Wave. And sometimes my cell phone, but I usually leave it in the car, or my locker, or a jacket pocket. It's always within 100 feet, and my workspace is so tiny and cramped that I've smashed it against a wall countless times when I keep it on my belt....!

Simbad, that sounds like a pretty comprehensive kit. Im working on something VERY similar to carry in my new Maxpedition Devildog.
Whereabouts are you in Mallorca? Its just about my favourite part of the world, I holiday at The Playa in Camp de Mar whenever I can. My dream is to one day live in Mallorca, Ive visited a good few of the knife stores in Palma, Paguerra etc but NOT seen any good outdoor/survival shops, could you please tell me if there are any? Hopefully, I'll be back out there in August.

Stu, I take all that stuff in a typical Eastpak bag, this paricularly model has many pockets and compartments, it's made in Cordura fabric. I also have a Maxpedition Proteus but is too small to take extra things like food, books or a jersey. As for a change I would try the Maxpedition Monsoon, I like the way to carry a single sling bag.
I live in a small village (4,700 population) called Alar? at the step of the mountains of Tramuntana near the center of the island at 25Km away from Palma.
Camp de Mar is a very nice place, that is the "rocky" side of Mallorca, I used to go there in summer for swimming and "jumping" from the cliffs, very deep water though.
The good outdoors shops are in Palma town, I know most of them, very well stocked bu a bit pricey, anyway, I can PM you some info about

Hi, Simbad. I'll look you up if I get out there in August, Im starting a new job soon & unsure what theyre like for holidays. I had afew too many holidays last year, spent about 7 weeks out of the country (5 of them in Camp de Mar). Sadly, I think THIS years gonna be about working hard.

Ok, bearing in mind that I live in an urban enviroment ( mostly) and our law enforcement agency's sometimes seem to think that the Law is whatever they say it is, ( In theory I can, on the provision that it is not of a proscribed type like a butterfly knife, flick or gravity knife, have about my person an knife that has a 3" edge or less without having to explain it. Fixed blade knives or folding knives of above that size require reasonable excuse. In practice, the Police may try to prosecute for possession of an offencive weapon. Thus circumventing my exercise of a right) I normally carry a Leatherman Wave, One of two Benchmade folders and a torch, lighter and money, cell phone, credit cards etc on my person. I carry waterproofs, food & water as needed and a small first aid kit plus anything else I deem needed in my rucksack. Common sense ( Now there is a contradiction in terms for you) really .

If you got GPS for the PDA you could carry maps on it as well and would not need the GPS reciever as well.

Although I do have maps on the PDA, they don't have a GPS unit for it where as the GPS unit has a very basic map set in it so by combining the two I have GPS and good maps. One day when I have some spare money I'll buy a better unit <img src="/images/graemlins/wink.gif" alt="" />

What is the point of this inquiry, and why do you keep bumping it up?

A survival peeping tom? Gathering data for someone? Somebody who wants to know what the "cool kids" are using to be like us?

I'm just at a loss for the possible reasoning to this. If people share, they share, and they usually start a new thread when they do so.

Belt Right Hip: Office BB and Leatherman Charge Ti with a Mag Solitaire on one side of the holster and a mini Sharpie on the other side of the holster

Left Front pocket: Burton Helios lighter, Burt's Bees lip Balm, Cross Vice Pen, and a handkerchief

- Ring 1: house keys and membership cards
- Ring 2: Car Key

(the Triple Cat allows me to always have ring 3 with me. When I am on reserve weekend ring 1 stays in the car, when traveling in DW car ring 2 stays at home and I clip my key set for her car to ring 3)

Perhaps the only sin here is that I haven't taken the time to post my own EDC. It should be a two way street. Are others guilty as well?

The picture above is still pretty accurate for me. A couple of notable changes however...

I switched from the large Sebenza to the large RSK and I swapped an Arc AAA Premium for the Photon. The Photon now lives in my Altoids tin PSK. I may go back to a large Sebbie in the future if TNK ever gets in a left-handed dual silver thumbstub large regular. The darn thing has been on back order for decades <img src="/images/graemlins/frown.gif" alt="" />.

I don't see a problem. I see something odd, something curious.

I see someone who's only interest seems to be to peek in people's pockets. We all talk about our EDC in normal conversation here. The information you seek could be easily gleaned from reading the postings. You don't post except to "bump" this up in activity, or at least you haven't in 18 months according to your posting history, which to me seems odd. An inactive member who appears to be looking for specific information, and only on a limited number of threads.

Excuse me, but that pings fairly high on my weird-stuff-o-meter. It's like a guy who isn't a local and parks his car so he can take a walk through the neighborhood without talking to anyone while looking over the houses. Maybe he's a architecture student, maybe he's looking for place closer to work and this is on his list of good neighborhoods, maybe he's casing, maybe he's looking for his ex-wife and kids, who knows? But he's going to make people wonder, and eventually someone is going to ask him if they can help him, becuase they are a concerned member of thier community.

I'm a concerned member of this community. And I'd be shocked if I was the only one who thought something looked a little strange.

just curious to see what everyone carrys on there person. being in charge at the local police impound lets me see a lot of wierd stuff, that people carry, and its just curiosity as to why I bump the threads here and on other boards. People kind of let threads go away for months if someone does not keep them at the top, and bumping them gets alot of more people involved. comeing from someone whos been here in less time then me, blah I have nothing further to say, on that matter other then reading you your rights and seeing whats in your pockets, haha.

I appreciate having it bumped to the top actually. Since I started coming to this site my EDC has changed drastically, and I find that it is still changing on an ongoing basis.

I asked because I've seen things like this in other forums where it turns out data was being mined. With the recent forum spamming, it seemed like the question needed to be asked in the open becuase your behavior pattern is unusual for members of ETS. It isn't unusual for someone who is taking notes, either for marketing or as someone who is beating the bushes looking for something that might be career enhancing.

Given the current state of the world, my Russian ancestry crops up ever now and then. Some might call it paranoia, but experince indicates that it is a survival trait to check when something doesn't feel right.

As for how long I've been here, I've been around for a long time. Off and on since the forum started, under a couple of names as my location in the world changes, sometimes to places where I don't have access to the web, and as the servers glitch. The server failures seem to eat those who have contributed the most first.

Now, did you type something you'd like to apologize for?

As I said, all I did was a question. And while I hate to ask this of them, I would love to see the moderator's opinions. In public, preferably; I have nothing to hide here, and the abuse that was aimed at me WAS public.

Your concerns remind me about this crazy thread that was on bladeforums (or maybe it was knifeforums) last year. It was called something like "What illegal things do you EDC?" or something to that effect.

Of course, half the people wrote back with comments telling the author what he could do with his question.

The crazy thing is that the other half (or at least some number) actually wrote about things they carry illegally. You sometimes just gotta wonder what's wrong with people...
