Hey, anybody else out there growing a ton of food?

I always have, but lots of folks went nuts in the supply chain crisis during the pandemic.

Supply chains are still vulnerable, and food costs have gone crazy. Anybody hedging their bets (and feeding their stomachs) by dropping a few seeds in fertile soil?

Mrs. Magnet has been growing herbs and leafy greens for years, just enough to notice it on the grocery bill, but certainly not enough as a hedge against potential food insecurity.

A kitchen garden counts for a lot -- good on Mrs. Magnet for doing this. Calories may be dirt cheap but nutrition is not easily found.

It takes a pretty large garden to provide most of the calories (and nutrition) we need. But the skills, tools, and stored seeds/tubers from this year's small garden make it possible to expand production hugely in the next season. When, spam+fan, supply chains won't be able to supply what people suddenly want and need. You fight the war, as they say, with the weapons you have, not the ones you wish for.

It's sort of a shame that people are complaining loudly about high food prices and yet don't seem inclined to lift a finger to help themselves. There are many exceptions, to be fair.

There's an incredible, highly watchable BBC series that explores the food crisis and farming methods in Britain as they were under blockade in WWII. I found it fascinating. I think this is the link;

We managed a few tomatoes and cucumbers this year, a couple small tomatoes appeared last week on one of the plants so far.
