How to lighten your EDC?

Carry less.

Don't pack for every situation; plan for the likely ones.
Pack for flexibility rather than packing every possible tool.

I try to pick small and lighter things for most things I own. Not just EDC. Takes up less space and easier to carry with you. It just reduces any friction from actually using it. This goes from my small toolbag that does 95% of the jobs, to a stick vacuum.

Also, pack smart; tried carrying a USB with my backups on me; too big. I just have a giant micro-sd card in my phone where I put my encrypted backups on. No extra space involved and always with me. Pick a high endurance version for reliability.

Maybe consider using a pack mule??

I tend to think that skills and resourcefulness are the best EDC.

Beyond that, I carry VERY light mostly for fear that the alternative is carrying nothing. Watching the weather forecast when deciding what to wear, and carrying a cell phone (GPS w/ map, compass, camera, flashlight, SMS text), knife (Ritter MK1), LED flashlight, whistle, and a small ferro rod in pocket. Keep in mind that I'm in a very rural area (iffy cell service), but usually with my truck on public roads. I'm not hoofing it in remote wilderness.

Eventually I plan to buy and carry a new PLB. My first one is old enough that its battery is probably shot. I should test it.
