Ugh. Now that we've left Suburbia and moved to Nointernetland we are stuck using HughesNet satellite internet, which severely limits data usage. I can only watch videos (data hogs) during their bonus hours between 2am - 8am. Ugh.

I imagine a very large geographical area of the U.S. is in the same situation.

BTW, my smartphone doesn't get 3G or 4G data at my house either. Crazy.

What's kind of odd is that we have natural gas service, but no internet or 4G data service.

I hear you.

Even people with internet that's normally smokin' fast are having trouble. I am somewhat functional, even after an upgrade, but the demand is just bloody enormous. For a Citrix connection, I need to be logged in early in the morning, because by 10:30 am, when all the kids who are home go online, it's just too slow to work efficiently. Fortunately, I can do a lot of work offline and upload the next day.

The cell-based internet service could be a signal strength problem. We live in a dead spot for cell coverage, which is weird because we're almost within sight of a city of almost a million people. Neighbours have installed cell phone boosters, which are not cheap, but they swear up and down that they are game-changers.

My download is down about 8% (normally 185, now 170). My upload is down quite a bit more, 40% (normally 20, now 12). My ISP is cable.

Holy cow haertig, what do you have, a T1 trenched into your house?!?!

I'm in the country, on a spendy, fixed wireless link. If I can get 10% of your up/down, I'm rockin'. I can do everything I need and then some.

Apologies for the thread hijack. Back to diversions!

Here's entertainment for people who just don't want to hear about the plague anymore.
