Just FYI, I recently ran into a problem with the sheath for the new Leatherman Charge tool. I was outside for about an hour under the mid-day southwest sun and inadvertently rested my bare arm against the sheath (easy to do since it protrudes a bit more than the old Wave sheath due to the bit holder(s) carried behind the tool). I was shocked by the burn I received from the metal logo plate affixed to the sheath flap. While not a serious burn, it was most unwelcome and the red spot was still evident 24 hours later. Note that had I been wearing long sleeves, this probably would not have been an issue.

Combined with the annoying penchant for this metal plate to scratch stuff when you inadvertently rub against it, I have decided to suggest that those who are getting the new Charge Ti and XTi may want to remove the logo plate from the sheath. I accomplished this relatively easily without damage to the sheath using a pair of 8-inch flush cut end nippers to cut the two studs from the back.

I have advised Leatherman of my experience and recommended a change to an embroidered logo or a soft plastic ersatz cast metal logo plate. A full report on the new Charge will be forthcoming later this summer.

Thanks for the heads up! Besides the sheath, are you satisfied with the new Charge?

As noted, I'll have a full report later this summer after we beat the crap out of it a bit. <img src="/images/graemlins/grin.gif" alt="" />
