Makes those Air Force flight lunches (usually cold chicken, a sandwich, and an apple in a little white cardboad box) sound better and better...

Hey, I liked the Air Force boxed lunch. Took many a MAC flight to the mainland from HI while stationed there, and the good ol' White box (only $2.90) was way better than most airline food.

I think itīs a PR gag. If you donīt have the water for your meal, maybe you should think twice about eating it in the first place. The option to filter water may be an definite advantage though.
If youīre still hungry after seeing that the meal was made with urine is a different subject.
When people install plant to make potable water out of a muddy liquid youīd not even use to have a bath, they usually drink a glass of the purified water in public to demonstrate that the produkt is fine. I guess we have to wait a bit before we can see sales people to do the same with their product. I admit that Iīm not particularly keen to see it anyway.

When I was in Panama I used to have to go out into the boonies to a Naval test facility guarded by Marines, who lived there on C-rats. They were supposed to feed me too, but all they would give me was Beans and MF's, so I always took a flight lunch along, mucho better. Still got the P-38 I stole from them tho...

When and where were you down there, Old bald Guy? I spent 1981 & 82 over at Ft. Davis on the Atlantic side.

I agree, if they can filter urine effectively enough to make it edible, they'd be better off simply filtering it enough to make it potable.

I believe this is one of the R&D products out of the US Army Natick Soldier Center (NSC) - here is the original press release - which doesn't emphasize urine, as the media did. (BTW, will the media ever get past the "potty-stage" of development? Though I must say I'm still chuckling at bountyhunter's post above...)

The NSC has lots of cool technology on their website that would likely be of interest to Equipped members - here are the fact sheets on their gear...

I was a WingNut, there from mid-'69 thru the end of '69. Assigned to Allbrook AFB, but spent most of my time at Howard, with a lot of TDY to just about every installation in the Canal...
