I just found out a few minutes ago. Anyone in the area who can fill us in?

Yeah, that could be significant.

Interesting that folks in FL are posting about EQ’s on the West coast and SOCAL folks are posting about Hurricane Dorian... How are the preps going?

I already posted this; it begs to be repeated.

If you look at the graphic at: USGS latest EQ's, you can see that the earthquake was located directly on what appears to be the Blanco Fracture Zone between the Pacific and Juan de Fuca plates. Yeah, that might be significant.

Apparently no indications of a tsunami. At 175 miles off the coast, I would not think there would be much damaging shaking occurring.

Like the rainfall of a hurricane, the damage from a big tsunami can be much greater than the shake itself.

The significance is that a ...Magnitude 6.3 Quake Off The Oregon Coast
Raises Concerns That The Cascadia Subduction Zone Could Soon Rupture
.

Quote:
... The Cascadia Subduction Zone stretches from northern California all the way up to Vancouver Island, and scientists assure us that it is only a matter of time before it produces another monster earthquake. And when that happens, we will almost certainly also see a colossal tsunami which will completely wipe out communities all along the west coast. In fact, the head of FEMA’s Region X once told the New Yorker that “everything west of Interstate 5 will be toast” when this sort of an event finally strikes…

Or, on the other hand, it might not be significant. The EQ may have increased stress in the zone, or it may have decreased stress. (I suppose either outcome is "significant," one way or another...)

I can predict, with absolute certainty, that there will be more EARTHQUAKES on the West Coast. At no extra charge, I predict future hurricanes in Florida, and droughts somewhere else, etc.
