The scariest part to me is how intelligent people are jumping onto this band wagon!

It often is simply a lack of knowledge. Many people do not really know enough about the technology to assess the potential risks properly. Probably it also is a lack of imagination about what can be done with the data (e. g. investigate the correlation of the habit of buying unhealthy snacks and sick leaves).
In my workplace the cards for the ID system were switched to NFC. The employees were told that the range is very small and they experience that the card does not work when it is in their wallet. However they do not understand that a stronger transmitter and a better antenna in the reader may extend the range dramatically (up to several feet). There is no use telling them as they do not believe it.

Umm no. There's no way to shield the chip short of wearing a tinfoil glove. Your employer would not be the only one trying to use the chip. Even smart cards, like the militaries CAC, have to be shielded for security. And, yes, I've seen briefcase sized card readers with several feet of range.

FWIW, I've been using these to protect transponder cards

What's scary is this could be the mark mentioned in Revelation 13:16-17. Time will tell.

Practically speaking ... let's suppose people have an embedded chip that uniquely identifies them. Lets suppose - amongst other things - this chip can send a signal to unlock your garage or front door. How do criminals gain access to your house? Simple, they gain access to the chip. How do they do this? They dig the chip out of your body with the point of a knife.

This is not fictional thinking. The problem of "kidnapping" has become a big problem in Mexico. One company came up with a solution. If you pay a price, they will embed a tracking chip in your arm. That way the police can find you, if you arw kidnapped. It's a LOJACK system for human beings. So how do the drug cartels deal with this problem? If they think that a person has an embedded chip, they dig it out with a sharp knife.

Itīll be much easier to let you keep the chip. After all they could invite you to give them a tour around your house and show them where your valueables are and how to access them.
