I tried to send you a message Hikermor, but you are over your limit. I am on a bit of a kick on storage archeology books, and am looking for a good one on North America. Any recommendations?

I guess I could open it up to anyone, but I know Hikermor's background. Just don't want to sift through several bad ones before I find a good one.

Good question, and I don't have a good answer right off the bat. Let me ponder and check around. I suspect what might be best would be several regional summaries, because we archeos have been busy shoveling, and the amount of data and information is getting bigger every day.

Mods, what's this jazz about being over my limit? I haven't had a PM in a coon's age (precisely dated by radiocarbon at 76 months =/- 4 weeks).

]Montanero, I thought I would send you a PM, but I find that you too are over limit. Oh well....

I would recommend Ancient North America by Brian Fagan. I must admit that I have not read this book, but I know his work and I am confident he speaks with straight tongue, as they say in the movies. Looking at the reviews on Amazon, I was surprised at the low overall rating, but I regard the lowest ratings as rather superficial. I would carefully consider the first rating posted - it seems to be balanced and thoughtful

Actually, I have read one of his works, "Cruising Guide to Caifornia's Channel Islands", and it was accurate, informative, well written, and it has kept me out of trouble for many years.

I am afraid I fit the classic definition of a specialist - one who knows more and more about less and less. I can tell you more than you want to know about the archaeology and paleontology of western Santa Rosa Island.....

Just to be sure, I have cleaned out my PMs. You (or anyone) can PM me to see if that helped.
